It wouldn't have been Aziraphale's class if there were no breakfast pastries and pots of tea and coffee on the table in the center of the room. Since it was Aziraphale's class, those items were conveniently available for the students to enjoy.

The teacher himself had just finished setting up a display of scrying implements, and turned to the class once everyone was seated.

"As you can see, today's exercise will be in chrystallomancy, or crystal gazing. Before we begin the exercise, however, I want to give you a brief lecture on dream interpretation. You may think it odd that the lecture would focus on dreams while the exercise covers scrying, but really the two are very similar. The same sorts of symbolism you're going to encounter in your dreams is also very often present in chrystallomancy as well."

Aziraphale proceeded to give his lecture on dream interpretation, and gave each student several different handouts and a blank journal.

"Your homework for is to keep a dream journal for the next week. One of your handouts has some good pointers on methods for keeping them. When you come to the next class, I'd like you to bring a written interpretation of one of the dreams from your journal. Now, we'll move on to today's class exercise."

He gave a short talk on the basics of chrystallomancy, and then said, "Now, pair up and choose a crystal or scrying mirror to work with, and do a reading for your partner. Also, please don't forget to turn in your homework assignment from last week."

"Hey," Chris said, sitting next to Lana. "You okay?"

"Jim's gone," Lana said dully. "For good. His dad pulled him out permanently and doesn't want him to have any more contact with me either."

"Ouch. I'm sorry," Chris said, reaching over to rest a hand on her shoulder. "Is there anything I can do?"

Lana shrugged. "I don't know. Don't really care about much of anything at the moment. I really thought he was someone in my life who was going to stay. Guess I was right about everyone leaving."

"Sorry," she said after a moment, looking a little embarrassed. "You're trying to be really nice and I'm just ... being miserable."

"I don't blame you," Chris said. "I just wish there was something I could do to make you feel better."

"Me too," Lana said. "Believe me if there was something I'd tell you."

"Well, I can listen. Or hang out. Or whatever," Chris offered.

"Thanks. I may take you up on that," Lana said. "I still... I haven't been able to sleep in my room yet. It's too hard with him gone."

Chris frowned. "Where have you been sleeping?"

"Common room a couple of night, fell asleep on the roof last night..."

Chris frowned more. "That's not good. Why don't you crash with me and Summer tonight?"

"I wouldn't want to put you out," Lana said. "Plus, I'm terrible company."

Chris looked into the crystal ball that he had picked up. "Hmmm, I see you staying with me and Summer," he told her. "So that means you have to. The crystals never lie."

Hey, he never said he wasn't a dork.

She almost even smiled. "I'll think about it."

"Please do," Chris said. "I'm pretty sure my aunt would beat my ass if she found out I let you sleep on the roof."

"And how is she going to find out?" Lana asked.

Chris raised his eyebrow. "She's psychic!"

Lana raised her eyebrows. "Which explains the immediate phone call I got about Jim leaving. Or not."

"It's Phoebe. She'll find out," Chris said. "Besides, I don't want to see you get sick or anything."

"It's stupid that I can't just sleep in my own bed," she said. And immediately felt the tears begin to well up because it wasn't her bed, it was their bed and half of the 'their' was gone forever.

"I'm sorry, God, I just can't seem to stop."

"You don't have to apologize," Chris told her, patting her shoulder comfortingly.

"I just want him back. I'd do anything to get him back and I know it's impossible," she said intensely. "Makes me feel like everything is so damn hopeless."
