Keeping Your Wits About You... [Monday 2nd Period 10-11] Class # 4

It was Fall and Wilson was celebrating by having a Caramel Apple Pie at the front of the classroom along with the morning's coffee and tea offerings.

He was also leaning against the desk, sipping his own morning coffee and looking highly amused about something. Probably best not to ask what he was amused about, the students would find out soon enough.

As soon as everybody was seated, Wilson slid off the desk and began to pace the front of the room.

"Today we are going to talk about a trap so insideous and dangerous that it is feared and spoken about in all cultures around the world. There are books about these traps, urban legends and it is something most parents carefully take their children aside to discuss at least once in their lives."

Sipping at his coffee, he came back to his desk and continued to try to maintain a straight face.

"I am of course, talking about ... The Bad Date."

Dramatic pause please!

Lecture:

Grinning, he set aside the coffee and walked towards the overhead projector.

"Before you all groan and decide that I've lost my mind -which we all know I have- this is practical to the class. Escaping a blind date involves some quick planning as well as forward thinking as you have to map out steps to get yourself out of the situation in a way that will hopefully be a clean break. After all, nothing is more awkward than running into someone when you skipped out on them before the main course was served."

Flipping on the projector, Wilson began his lecture for the day detailing out the various scenarios and their pros and cons as he talked.

Class Activity:

After everyone had hopefully taken plenty of notes, he shut down the projector and walked to the black board.

"Okay so today's exercise is probably fairly obvious. I'm going to pair you off and you're each going to take a turn and 'escape' the other's bad date. However, this is Fandom, a fairly small island and so we're going to put our own twist on things. I want you guys to take one of the scenarios we discussed in lecture and adjust it for a Fandom specific excuse, keeping in mind that this is a small community and you need your escape path to be as neat and clean as possible for any future interactions with the 'bad date' you are ditching. Everybody clear on that? Excellent, let's get started."

Hoshi was somewhat amused. Who would be desperate enough to sneak out of a window to escape a bad date? Not that she knew anything about dating.

Beauty wasn't so sure about this exercise, but at least she was partnered with someone she'd met already. She sat quietly and waited for Savannah to join her.

Savannah gave Beauty a tired smile. "Hi."

"Hello, Savannah," Beauty said, with a smile that she tried not to make seem too concerned. "Are you all right today?"

If the other girl wasn't well, and didn't feel up to doing the exercise, Beauty didn't want to force her.

"Just a little tired, have a lot on my mind is all. How are you?"

[[OOC: May disappear as had many doctor appts stuff today and new meds make me tired. :/]]

"Other than feeling a little homesick, I'm doing well."

Beauty bit her lip uncertainly. "Um, I really have no idea how to do this. I've never been on a date."

[ooc: No worries, I hope you feel better. *hugs*]

Savannah smiled. "I have only been on dates with two guys, and one is now my boyfriend."

"Still puts you two steps ahead of me," Beauty pointed out, smiling. "Um...I don't suppose it's allowed for this exercise just to say that I'm very sorry, but I really don't think this is going very well, but it's been nice meeting you anyway?"

Savannah gave her a soft smile.

"Beauty, I'm really sorry, but I have to go. My boyfriend has been doused in liquid nitrogen and he's unable to light himself on fire right now."

Beauty put her hand over her mouth to smother a laugh, and nodded as seriously as she could manage.

"That's horrible, Savannah. I understand, of course. I, um...really should go back to my room anyway. My, uh...roommate was turned into a bird. She needs to be fed."

"Nice to see you, Beauty, we'll have to do this again sometime."

Johnny waited for Isabel knowing that this exercise ought to be entertaining at the very least.

Well, he probably couldn't have picked a better person for her to want to escape from, Lana thought. She waited uneasily for Wyatt.

Awk. Ward. Well, he'd try to make this fast and easy.

"Hey, Lana," he said. "I'd love to stay and chat, but there's an invasion of . . . glittering shaving cream monsters and I have to go fight them." He did try to sound apologetic.

"Oh, that's too..." She jumped as though her cell phone had gone off on vibrate, then pulled out her phone and checked the imaginary text message. "Oh dear. Well, I guess it's all for the best since there's a problem back at my room. Nice seeing you, though."

She didn't quite manage to sound apologetic.

"Yeah, see you around," Wyatt said hastily, then turned away.

"Not if I see you first," she said under her breath.

As Hoshi waited for Chris, she wondered how Barney Stinson might escape from a bad date.

Anne had absolutely no idea what Wilson was talking about. She hoped Summer would help her figure it out . . .

"Hey," Summer greeted, sitting beside Anne.

"What is he talking about?" pleaded Anne, helplessly.

He's around if you need to ask him anything.

No more vacation for me ... le sigh.
