*There are some stray wires and a plastic bag filled with glue, rubber bands, and duct tape on Tick's desk, but there is no droid in the class. Tick presumably has some repairs to make later on.

For now, though, Tick stands at the podium, more normal-seeming than usual. It seems somewhat unsettling.*

Hello, students! I have a couple things to note before getting started this morning.

You may have noticed somebody new to the class observing the discussion on Tuesday. That was Rory Gilmore, my new sidekick. She'll be acting as a TA for this class and will be here to observe and maybe join into the discussion whenever she wants.

What with the recent hullaballoo over weapons, I just wanted to remind everyone of something; anything, if used in such a way, can be a weapon. I know a guy who uses lethal baked goods! Egads, man! You don't know Fear until you've stared down the barrel of a loaded cruller! Remember, Vigilance is your best weapon, and it can never be banned! You should write that one down. It'll be on the test.

Onto today's lesson. I think it would be a good time to talk about one of the Three Mighty Components of Criminal Justice in detail. First off are the Crime Fighters, also known as ~~superheroes~~ ~~Rover~~ the police.

The police ~~and superheroes~~ ~~and big bouncy balls~~ are there for two reasons; to capture those who have infringed upon the law and to scare people away from doing that! If you do something wrong, then you can be sure that one of these magnificent Hawks of Lawfullness will swoop down and capture the Field Mouse of Crime in its strong Beak of Arrest!

I'm sure everyone here has had at least one experience with the police, at the very least in grade school when Officer Friendly dared you to say no to drugs! So, please, share any stories you have about interacting with these Birds of Prey of Justice!

[OOC: I have a story! A couple weeks ago I accidentally hit a parked cop car in a cop parking lot with a cop standing three yards away from my car, and I got away with it!]

I have a story. ~~And will in no way have other police stories to tell in the future. No siree.~~

I was once at a party that got busted up by the cops. We were all underage, and there was drinking and probably gambling. Might have been a cock fight out back. And the cops came in, and my best friend and I snuck out the back and waited across the street to watch as a couple people got taken down to the station for being disorderly. It was cool, because I didn't get into trouble.

See? Vigilance is the ultimate weapon! With it, you avoided arrest! Of course, you probably shouldn't have been there in the first place, but, still... Vigilance!

Excuse me? Is it still possible to add this class?

::A small purple dragon perches on her shoulder and eyes the Tick warily.::

There's always room in my class for anyone who embraces justice! Just tell me your name, chum, and I'll add you to the roster!

Oh, and who's your friend? Is he just your friend, or is he signing up too?

[OOC: Dude. I fully expect Lockheed to regularly interact with Tick during class.]

I'm Kitty Pryde. And this is Lockheed. He's a fan of justice, too, though he doesn't speak English.

::Lockheed tilts his head and looks the Tick up and down.::

Justice is a language unto itself! Welcome to the class!

*Tick's antennae wriggle briefly as he tries to see if he can communicate with Lockheed. Having no clue what Lockheed is, Tick figures he might be a very large bug, so maybe they share an unspoken and undiscovered Large Bug language.

This doesn't work. Tick moves on.*

Rory sneaks into the back, smiling and waving before sitting down to watch.

By the way, Rory, I'd like to ask you something after class. Please stick around if you can.

"Sure thing, sir," Rory says, smiling.

[OOC: Due to my extreme use of slow-time, that's a good call. Class may not actually end for a few days in the real world.]

*After class*

I've been noticing something at this school. There are a bunch of normal kids around here without powers and weapons or anything, and a lot of them have been trying to find their place. I'm thinking about sponsoring a club for these kids so they have a real peer group to interact with at any time. And if they need help with monsters or anything, I can be their big, blue bodyguard.

I know that you have a whole bunch of extra-curriculars, but as my sidekick, it's only right to ask you first if you want to head this thing up.

Rory grins. "I think that's a great idea, since I obviously fall into said group of 'normal' kids. And I'll definitely take charge of it, if you want.

"Um...would you mind, though, if I incorporated it into my platform for Student Relations Officer? Because y'know...what's more Student Relationsy than this? I'd absolutely give you credit for the idea, of course," she adds hastily.

Please, feel free to use it! My brain is merely the pound where this puppy of an idea was staying! Your brain is the puppy's new home with a big back yard and a bowl that says "Fido!" It's only right that you use the puppy to try to sell the House of Your Brain on the Real Estate Market of Student Government!

You have some experience with running a club already if I'm not mistaken, so I'll let you tell me what I have to do as sponsor.

[OOC: It's like the metaphors are writing themselves!]

Rory thinks, trying not to smile at the metaphor. "Well...as sponsor, you would need to just stop by meetings, at a minimum. For instance, Mr. Jerusalem just pokes his head into the yearbook meetings to make sure we're not giving each other papercuts or anything."

I can do that! *Finds a pen and paper to write down "Papercuts = BAD!!! Be gone, foul wood by-products!"*

*absently writes "Vigilance is your best weapon" on otherwise blank notepad she's been carrying around, she's a bit distracted today, but smiling as she doodles, completely ignoring the very pink shirt she's stuck wearing*

Well, I've had a few misunderstandings with law enforcement in the past. For instance once there was this ship no one was using , so I borrowed it for a bit and there was this misunderstanding over when I was going to bring it back.

But I definitely learned my lesson, Professor Tick!

Well, it just goes to show that even dedicated Scions of the Law can make mistakes! I'm glad to hear that you made it out of that situation okay!

I'm afraid I haven't had any experience with civilian law enforcement in several years, sir, as I've been busy with my military duties. Although there was an incident in my misspent youth when a constable chased me away from a theater.

I can't help but wonder why a constable was chasing you away from a theater. Would you like to continue the story? I bet it's keen.
