Modern Feminism: From Susan B Anthony to Bea Arthur - Second Period - 09/12

Not tired in the least from radio and then having to sleep on the couch and then bickering with Nate all night and then not getting any coffee...

Okay so he was a wee bit tired, so sue him.

Anyway!

Deadpool cleared his throat, grinning at his class cheerfully. "Goooood morning my lil' chickadees! Today we'll be learning about Susan B. Anthony and no, she's oddly enough not the subject of David Bowie's Suffragette City. I know! I was shocked too!"

Deadpool affected an entirely different posture all of a sudden - ramrod straight, to be exact. "'Suffragette City' is about her polar opposite. That's relevant." He smiled at the class. It probably looked strange with that mask on. "She was a civil rights leader and an admirable woman who battled to secure women's suffrage for 45 years."

Posture going back to a slouch, Deadpool frowned. "Hey! I'm teaching here!"

It went right back. "I'm helping."

Oh, those poor students watching this... Deadpool went right back to normal, flailing his hands about. "Like you helped get me stuck on the couch?!" Wasn't it fun when teachers brought their personal lives into the classroom?

If there was such a thing as shooting yourself a look, it's what Deadpool was doing now. "Susan B. Anthony left her vocation as a teacher in 1849. Three years later, she would help organize the first women's state temperance society in the United States. As she gained prominence as a women's rights advocate, she finally founded the National Women's Suffrage Association in 1869 with the help of Elizabeth Stanton."

The children might also be surprised to learn that one can also stick a tongue out at oneself. But that doesn't mean Deadpool did. Because he was a teacher and that wasn't dignified. "And she also worked with Frederick Douglas to try and get rights for slaves as well as women. See? I can also play the 'I know everything because I'm from the future' game!" A beat. "Though I'm not technically from the future..."

"It's all a matter of perspective," he deadpanned at himself. "In 1872, she cast a vote in the presidential election, leading to her arrest. She plead 'not guilty', citing the fourteenth amendment as granting her the right to vote because it granted the privileges of citizenship to all persons - including women. One of these privileges was the right to vote."

Deadpool gasped. "Even mutants?!"

"I hear they're declaring us an endangered species now..."

Deadpool rolled his eyes... at himself. "Oh please, there will be some big company wide cross-over event that will fix this problem and cause yet more to happen. Probably bring your mom back to life at least twice during it."

"She is due, yes... Anthony was declared guilty despite her famous speech in defense of women's suffrage. However, she refused to pay the fine, and the courts did not pursue her for nonpayment, as this would have allowed her to appeal." He took a moment to ponder at himself. "It's that time of the year again?"

Shaking his head in confusion suddenly, Deadpool tried to give himself a look. "Holy crap, it's spreading!"

"I'm just recapping."

"Yeah, yeah... easy for you now," Deadpool grumped. "You've still got a series."

Still sulking over this fact, Deadpool seemed to hesitantly reach up to give himself the most awkward and bizarre pat on the shoulder ever seen. "Just watch the film strip, kids."

Aly wandered into the room after class carrying two cups of coffee and a box of cookies. "Don't say I never gave you anything," she said lightly, pushing the one of the coffees in front of him.

"Yes, because you don't need to be THAT high on caffeine for the next eight hours," she teased, sitting on the desk and offering him the box of cookies.

"As you should!" she argued, watching him carefully. "I've given you many things other than cookies!"

Nate could have interfered. He just chose to hang back a little and smirk vaguely at Deadpool from a distance, instead.

Aly eyed him then followed his glance over to Nate. She didn't betray her surprise to see - something - someone - huh - standing there, but she squinted slightly, trying to adjust her eyes to get a clearer view.

"Well, sounds like he got better," she said absently.

He hadn't displayed surprise when Anakin spoke directly to him; the second time, the lack of surprise was a mostly natural response.

"Your friends have good eyes," Nate said.

Aly's brow creased for a moment as she caught a glimpse of a man she recognised and had rather expected almost. "So I should have brought a third cup of coffee then?"

"I'll take it black," Cable deadpanned, crossing his arms.

She looked back down at Wade. "Cause I'm just saying. He can't have mine."

"He is right there," she replied though she rather knew what Wade meant.

It wasn't terribly hard to pick up on the lie there, but that wasn't quite the important part. "Who noticed him yesterday?"

Anathema stopped by after class, a piece of paper with writing on it in her hand.

"No. These are a few books on psychological disorders and the name and phone number of a very good psychologist, only he's in London." Anathema said quickly. "I don't mean to assume, but you seemed so ... distracted in class today."

"That's just Wade," Nate informed Anathema. Even if she couldn't hear him. "It's incurable. I've tried."

"Well, if you start talking about doorknobs again, the number should still be available." Anathema informed him.
