Aly sat on her desk as she watched her students file into the room. Start of the term was always fun especially with these students. She waited until everyone had found a seat or at least a comfortable place to lean and began.

"What we need," she said. "Is a baseline that we can start with. So what I want from you today is to pair up and discuss your own experiences." She paused. "Your own or something you've seen done, a time someone tried to protect you. I don't want this to be an exercise in emo or browbeating so while I'm sure none of you would take it that way, let me just have said it."

"This can be anything. It doesn't have to be a life and death situation. You can have tried to protect your sister from dating the guy you didn't like." Aly grinned. "I'm a little sister though. Trust me when I say that never works."

"But what I'd like you to do is talk about what works in your experience. What doesn't. Is the hardest thing protecting someone from themselves?" Aly shifted on the desk slightly, her hand reaching to stroke the black beads at her throat. "Most of you know I'm bored by theory. So this is going to be our 'theoretical class.' Next week we'll get into practicalities now that this is out of the way."

"And by the way, just so you know if I'm not around or you can't find me, Zuko and Dean Winchester are your TAs. Be nice to them."

"Long story," Anders said sheepishly. "Involving possibly-kidnapped cats. I already got yelled at it by people including Parker."

"And now you can add me to the list. Cats? Seriously??"

"Summoning cats to the Underworld is not cool, okay?" Anders maintained stubbornly. "We had to get them back!"

"They're cats, Anders," Z told him. "They probably wanted to be there."

"Well, they weren't exactly panicking, but come on! The Underworld is no place for cute fuzzy cats!"

"You are so adorably naive."

And adorably naive boy possibly got a lot less adorable, and a lot less mature, by sticking his tongue out at Z. "Yeah, but I'm cute."

"That's a matter of opinion," Z informed him primly.

That earned Z a full-fledged pout. "You don't think so?"

"Well," Z said, making a show of looking him over. "I guess in certain lights you might not be completely unattractive."

"Only not completely?" wheedled Anders. "Well, I guess that works . . ."

"I refuse to sit here and stroke your ego," Z told him. "If you want that there's a class on runway modeling."

"You're no fun," Anders informed her sadly, shaking his head in a clearly exaggerated way.

"You're not the first to say that," Z told him. "Also, I'm mean."
