Interdisciplinary Studies, Class 1, Friday, Period 1

"All right, kids," Squall said, once everybody had arrived. "Welcome to Interdisciplinary Whatever. My name is Squall Leonhart, and if you didn't know that already, you're probably going to fail the class. And I'm sick of being jingled at, so any bells you have on or about your person go in the trash. NOW."

He tossed a clipboard at the students. "THAT is to take attendance," he said. "Your names are on it. Put a checkmark next to your name and pass it around. Anyone whose name doesn't have a checkmark next to it at the end of class gets detention. Unless you've got a REALLY good reason."

Squall sat down on the edge of his desk and looked around. "So. You're here to learn stuff. That's what we do in this class. Learn 'stuff'. All the things you ought to know, but don't, and aren't being taught by the rest of the teachers here. Only about half of them know what they're doing anyway. This class is, first and foremost, about giving me something to do to keep my mind off crap. The SECOND most important part of the class is you brats. I hear it's the thing to do these days to pass out a syllabus on the first day of class." He gestured behind him at the blank chalkboard. "THAT is your syllabus for this class. That doesn't mean I don't have anything planned, just that it's not set in stone."

He shrugged.

"But first things first. Introduce yourselves. Name, something interesting about yourself, favorite color, what combat skills you have, and favorite flavor of ice cream." Was there something incongruous in that list? Naaaaah... "Oh, and Jenny Sparks is your TA, so if you have any questions or problems or anything, try not to piss her off."


Once that was over and done with, he looked around at the class. "Okay, so. This is a CLASS, not a summer workshop any more, so we're focusing on academics this semester. And this class is about YOU, so help me out here: What do you want to learn? What do you NEED to learn? Don't be stupid, okay? Give me good answers. If you don't, I'll make you regret it."

"I'm Buffy Summers, and I went to space once!" Buffy thought that was interesting. "I like pale blue and pink, and I can kick your ass while cheering and I like chocolate chip ice cream, but I don't have a favorite."

Rikku bounced up. "I'm Rikku! Uh. Something interesting about me. I'm really good with explosives. My favorite color is orange. And I totally saved the world once, how's that for combat? I'm better with close-up weapons than ranged, though. And I have an ancient legendary weapon that was meant for me and only me, which is pretty sweet." She tried to remember the last one. "Oh! And ice cream rules. I kinda like rainbow 'cause of all the happy colors."

"Cassandra," her voice was quiet. "I'm not very interesting," she paused to try to think of a color that wasn't associated with her past, "I like... black purple blue green red orange. I like orange."

"I'm a good fighter," she said vaguely; then smiles, "And I like chocolate."

"My name's Roxas, I like the colour red - and blue, sorta - and I... well, I don't really have much in the way of combat skills, but I"m the best in my town at Struggle, which is a game where you get to beat your opponent to sludge to steal balls from them. And my favourite ice cream's SeaSalt. You don't get much else in Twilight Town."

"Ronan Nolan," Ronan began. "I'm a wizard, and my favorite colour is red. In terms of combat, I have access to and experience with a wide range of offensive and defensive spells, some experience with a spear, and just enough experience with a sword to be more dangerous to myself than others." He shrugged. "And my favorite ice cream is strawberry."

"My name is Sora, I'm the Chosen of the Keyblade, my favorite colors are uhh...yellow? No red. Maybe blue? I've defeated thousands of heartless and Nobodies using the key blade and I have magic training from Merlin and my favortie ice cream flavor is Sea-Salt."

Sora smiled. Squall was so like Leon before he started to relax.

"My name's Carmela Rodriguez, I once hung out on the moon with a humpback whale named S'reee, my favourite colours are anything neon, really, I'm better at negotiating my way out of trouble but if it comes down to it I'm a mean shot with a laser disintegrator, and I like mint chocolate chip."

"I guess my favorite color would be a fiery shade of orange, an' I like chocolate ice cream. " 'M more of the type to avoid a fight than brawl with someone, 'though I did manage t'fight off a dino with a chain."

Rikku put her hand up tentatively. "Can we learn about machina? Uh. Machines, I mean. Taking them apart and putting them back together. Especially computers. Dawn said there's an internet-thing that's really awesome, but all I ever do is check my e-mail. When I remember. I usually don't."
