Career Choices, Wednesday, 4th period - Week 1

"Good morning, students," Emma greeted them as they entered the Danger Shop. Today it was set up as an ordinary classroom. "I apologize if I seem a bit off today, but I heard some very upsetting news on the radio." IE Jamie was back. She pinched her nose with a gloved hand and sighed. "Oh well. One just have to be strong."

She had dressed up in her White Queen outfit in honour of the day. "Today we shall only introduce ourselves and have a look at the syllabus. Next week you shall begin acting out scenes as though you have a certain profession. It will be challenging, but I'm sure you'll all do well." She smiled. "This is your syllabus," she said, handing out the papers. "And this and this is your homework for next time. Study both as your roles will not be assigned until next week."

"Now, introduce yourselves and tell me which professions you have already tried or thought of."

"I'm here because this is my school. And I walked across the causeway," Jamie said raising an eyebrow. "Isn't that how most people get back?"

"But space! Weren't you in space?" That thought had kept her entertained all summer, damn it. It had to be true!

"Your friend told me on the phone!" Emma flailed a little. She recalled the phone call in question, and smiled in pleased recollection. "At least, that's how I interpreted it."

"I was stuck in space for months!" Jamie shouted. "And you just left me there?!"

Emma looked puzzled. What had he expected? "Well, yes, of course. Isn't it every boy's dream to go on a space adventure?" She gave him an encouraging smile.

"Right! Sure it is!" Jamie growled. "No wonder all your students died off you cold hearted-"

Jamie stopped short of saying the word but any telepath in the room would have picked up the rest.

Emma narrowed her eyes. "Do not speak of my students like that," she said coldly.
