Construction Site: Friday the 24th, all day

The construction site would be eerily quiet if it weren't for the Best of the Beach Boys playing at this week's typical volume level. The halls and grounds are clean and empty of equipment and supplies, except for a table full of picnic supplies, and a rack of hard-hats standing next to it.

"You know, I think we ended up with a school here," Xander says, managing a grin despite the nearness of the fruitbat who's claiming to be in charge of said school. "Much as we'd like to keep putting you to work, we seem to have run out of it. So for your last day on the job, your assignment is to grab a helmet, sammiches and chips, and take a look at what you helped put back together, because you rocked the house, guys."

The smile vanishes when he adds, "But stay the hell away from the Principal's Office. No matter how trouble-proof you think you might be. Consider that your final safety lecture of the summer."

"I- I don't know," Bridge says honestly.

"It's not like she doesn't know we think she's crazy and evil. You were gonna what, appeal to her better nature?"

"No, 'cause I'm pretty sure she doesn't *have* one." Bridge shrugs.

"Did she do anything to you this time?" He'd assumed no, or Bridge would have come to see him or someone would have called, long before the radio broadcast, but it hadn't stopped him from fretting.

"Nope," Bridge says. "Well, she was sarcastic and patronising, if that counts."

"On the scale of what she could have done to you?" Xander's frustration-level is still a half-second away from Flailcon One.

"*You* went," Bridge says. "When *you* knew perfectly well she could have done something to *you*. And she *did*."

"And it was dumb."

And he knew it was dumb and he did it anyway. YOUR POINT?

"We're both kind of dumb sometimes, huh?" Bridge says with a small laugh. "It's just... you being hurt? Pretty much the worst thing *ever*, in my book. So I couldn't just ignore what she'd done to you."

Xander can't legitimately argue with any of those statements. Which doesn't mean he's still not trying. "I get you, but... find new ways to be dumb? Please?"

Bridge raises an eyebrow. "And what about you?"

"Finding new ways to be dumb has never been one of my problems," Xander hedges.

Bridge just crosses his arms and scowls.

"I'm not planning on going near her again unless it's about shutting her down," Xander says, which is more than he should, but less than specific.
