Construction Site: Wednesday August 22nd, all day

If you noticed a Xander-less construction site for most of the morning, you weren't imagining things. It took him a while to hop there from MCA.

He really should have called somebody and asked them to put up a sign, but he might be just a little stubborn. Maybe.

There's paintbrushes, there's a grim-faced guy sitting next to the paint-cans looking lazy but he's not, and there's still music playing. Loudly.

"Roomie!" Xander didn't stand up to hug her, despite how much he'd have liked to, but he did wave at her. He even managed to break his scowl for a moment to smile.

"Favorite Roomie!" Isabel smiled as she made her way over to him, all the while carefully looking for signs of what that woman did to him. The not getting up for a hug was the first clue.

"What did she do to you? Are you okay?"

"Stuck my legs together. I'll live." How sad was it that Xander wasn't even surprised she immediately guessed he'd been Umbridged? It made him take a second look at the sunglasses, though, and the scowl returned. "What about you? I'm guessing the new shades aren't a souvenir from your trip home."

"No trip home. Well at least, I only went as far as Roswell."

Isabel leaned down and gave him a hug. "She got me with some spell that makes my eyes sting and burn like hell. But I figure it's temporary, and honestly I've had worse. So I'll deal. I won't give the heinous bitch the satisfaction of seeing me look uncomfortable."

"Good times." The tone didn't match the words. "Familiar times; reminds me of Skeeter, only with the crazycakes revved up to eleven."

"Skeeter never hurt anyone. Not like this," she said seriously. "She as much as admitted she gets off on it."

"She hurt Bridge." That would be a tone that he'd never used about Skeeter, even back when the big bomb about Isabel's origin got dropped. "It was probably stupid to even go in there yesterday, but I wanted to actually see her face, after that. So I know who to hate."

"He told me about that when I saw him the other night," Isabel nodded, understanding the tone. "But I get why you went. That's pretty much why I did. I just wanted to look her in the eyes. She's evil and not in the demon-vampire way. Just in the plain, wrong way, if that makes sense."

"Seriously. She's out of control, just doing whatever she wants because she can." Flash of that bad, bad day when Willow's hair went black, but the circumstances were so different that he almost felt like apologizing to Willow for even thinking it.

"Do you think anyone is going to stop her? Listening to the way she talked about Aly and Deadpool, it sounds like they tried," she said carefully. "Because things can't go on like this."

This close to Umbridge's office, Xander didn't think it was smart to say much out loud -- even with TMBG blaring under the windows. But he nodded. "People might be thinking things like that."

"Good. If I can help. At least when I can see again." She had to make the offer. If she couldn't help Max and Michael, at least she could help her friends.

Which qualifier didn't exactly incline Xander towards roping her into any plans the townie and teachery types were putting together, because for once Xander could see the sense in keeping the students out of it, no matter how powerful and good at taking care of themselves they were. They were also far more under Umbridge's thumb than the adults, and far easier for her to hurt.

He nodded, though. "I'm still waiting to hear."

Isabel had a feeling that once again she was going to be kept out of the loop to be kept safe. "Well if you do." But she wouldn't hold her breath.

"So I liked the dye job."

Xander grinned. "On Bridge?"

"No, the poodle," Isabel laughed. "Of course on Bridge. He looked adorable."

"Well, the poodle probably looked pretty cute too." Someone's poodle. At some time or other. Not that Xander's ever dyed one green.

"Now I'm going to be looking for a green poodle," she told him. "And around this place? It would not shock me to find one. Hanging out with the teal deer even."

"If you find one, I didn't do it. I did do Bridge, though." Xander opened his mouth a split second after he shut it, and held up a finger. "...'s hair. Did Bridge's hair."

The qualifier was a split second too late. Isabel laughed out loud. "So, so, so dirty."

"No, it was very clean; we did it in the shower."

"......His hair."

"TMI! TMI!" she exclaimed, giggling madly even though it hurt her eyes.

"'Cause it's got the spray thingie!"

Xander sighed. "I should just quit now, huh."

"It's probably a good idea," Isabel said as she pulled off her sunglasses and gently rubbed her eyes. "Because I don't want to start laughing the next time I see Bridge. He wouldn't understand."

[Bed for me. Pick up in the morning?]

Xander winced at the state of her eyes. "He probably would; all you'd have to say is 'Xander.' "
