Sanitary Living [period 5, Tuesday]

When students arrived in the Danger Shop for the last time, they would find it programmed to look like a very tidy, clean...daycare.

Hannelore smiled at them, looking quite a bit happier than she usually did. "So, not that I'll ever have any because ew, but the hardest thing ever from what I've heard? Maintaining organization and cleanliness with children around. So that's your challenge today. Take care of a kid. Don't drop anything. Try not to be thrown up on." She gave a little shudder. "See how well you can maintain order with a little kid bugging you. I'll be, you know, over here. You've all been a really fun class, too. Most of you, anyway." There may have been a glare directed at one particular student, but it passed. "And you guys can always come visit me in town or whatever if you need stuff counted, or other organizing help."

Oh, please don't let him be a crier.

Hermione bent over a little so she was closer his level. "Hello," she said, and asked a question she really didn't want to. "What's wrong?"

He held up a broken crayon, then dropped it on the floor.

"We can get you another crayon," Hermione promised him. Please don't cry.

He pointed, clearly indicating that Hermione should pick it up.

"No," Hermione said firmly. "You dropped it, you have to pick it up."

The little boy's lower lip quivered.

"It's nothing to cry about," she told him. "You... can ever make a game of it! I can time you on how long it takes you to pick up the crayon!"

He pointed again, this time more profusely.

And while stomping his foot.

He was gonna cry. Hermione braced herself for it.

"No," she insisted. "You pick it up yourself or it will have to stay there."

She hated that sound, but stood her ground. "That isn't helping your case at all," she told him.

"You're only going to tire yourself out," Hermione said, but she was starting to feel really badly.

He sat down so as to keep crying without getting tired.

He did pick up the crayon.

He did not stop crying.

Well, he did pick up the crayon, so Hermione knelt next to him, pulled out her wand, and worked a quick little reparo when she thought people would be least likely to see her. "Look, it's better now!"

He stopped crying, looking puzzled, then gleeful as he held it up to show her.

You know, in case she hadn't noticed.

He threw it on the ground happily.

It broke again.

Again with the pouting.

She's only sixteen. Yet it's seeming like a really good age to swear off children ever. "If you don't throw it," she said, "Maybe it won't break."

He pointed at it, looking expectant.

"Pick it up first," she reminded him, because if she was going to blatantly use magic to fix a problem when she probably shouldn't, she was at least going to teach the holographic child something.
