[Creatures of Nature - 5th Period, 8/20]

D handwavily notified the students to bring their pets with them to class, so that when they arrived he had the tables set up for the various cages to rest on.

"I know that you have had these animals for but a few weeks, but it is time to return them," he began. "And in the process show me what you may have learned, how they have affected your lifestyle in assuring theirs was comfortable, and what you thought of your pet in general."

Jenny gestured to Jeroen's cage, where the prairie dog was crouched in the corner. "So this is Jeroen--" as if cued, Jeroen whipped around dramatically to stare at the class. "Oi." Jenny held up a squirt bottle. "What have I told you?" Jeroen went back to acting like a normal prairie dog. "Jeroen is a prairie dog, and as you can see, he likes to be kind of...dramatic. Prairie dogs are very social, so I've had to spend a lot of time with him to make sure he didn't go even crazier than he already is. Also, prairie dogs have a very restricted diet, so I've had to be careful about what he eats. All in all, it's a lot of hassle, but what isn't? Also, he's pretty cute."

Karal had taken Esther out of her cage and was holding her while he talked, the chinchilla peering bright-eyed around the class. "Esther was not overly difficult to care for, certainly far less trouble than a horse, although for such a small creature, she has a great deal of personality." He had to stop and concentrate on a suddenly squirming Esther who was trying to jump down.

"Yes, well," he continued once he'd distracted her with a cracker. "She is also very brave. The most important lesson I learned was never to wish that an animal in your care could talk. Until I did that, she had not affected my lifestyle much at all. Overall?" Karal looked down at Esther, who flipped her ears at him as she got crumbs all over his robes. "I do like her, but I will be quite pleased to return her."

Reluctant to put Leo in his cage, Raph was holding him as he talked about his experience. "So, ah, what can I say? Leo's a rabbit, not really sure what kind. Keepin' a rabbit's a lot more work than ya might think. Once Leo got t'know me he was real friendly... Still doesn't like to be held much. Prefers to be on the ground, but he begs for attention if ya pretend not to notice him. It took a lotta time just sittin' with him to get him used t'me though."

Leo wiggled in Raphael's grip, and the turtle placed him on the floor. He kept his eyes on the rabbit as it hopped around his feet. "I'd say he's got a good personality, real friendly. Leo needed a lotta exercise, stuff t'chew on so he wouldn't eat the room, things to play with -he has a stuffed toy he slept with- and a cage big enough to stretch out and stand up in. He went just about everywhere with me to make sure he got the right amount of exercise and stimulation. Always had to watch him, though. He's fast when he wants t'be."

Leo stood on his hind legs to sniff at the class, then shook his head and hopped, kicking his legs excitedly. "... So, yeah.. That's it, I guess. Much as I like him, I couldn't keep a rabbit as a pet outside of school. I'm just not in a good situation to care for one... Glad he's got a good place t'go..."

Lana talked a bit about finding out what Grissom needed in terms of food and environment first.

"It was hard," she said, "taking care of a creature that frightened me. I might just have been even more careful than I normally would have been because I didn't want him to suffer just because I was afraid. But I will be very glad to give him back."

"It didn't really put me out of my way to maintain his terrarium. I asked a talking frog to translate what Claude said though, is that cheating?"

Haku had Mr. Stick Bug in a plastic carriable container that was filled with various sticks and leaves for him to blend in with, along with a small jelly lid with water. "This is Mr. Stick Bug, and if you can see him, he is a stick bug." Haku paused. "He doesn't do much except blend in with the sticks that I put in his cage, eat the leaves very slowly and I think sometimes drink the water. He was very interesting to watch when he moved... which wasn't that often. Overall a very easy to care for pet and one perfect for those who cannot handle a lot of responsibility."

"Uh, well..." Demyx shifted uncomfortably. "I, uh, I think I lost my pet, actually."
