Xander? Bitchily grim as he walks around pointing out various pieces of Very Loud Equipment?

"So yeah, today's job? Test all the equipment. Power drills, saws, cement mixers. Gotta make sure the stuff is still running when we send it all back." It may not make enough noise to bother Umbridge or even get her notice, but every little bit helps, right? Plus if anybody's trying something else, every distraction helps.

He's almost pissed-off enough to forget to tell them to put on proper safety gear while doing it.

The really big equipment's being run by the fine folks of NPC Construction, but there's plenty of noisy power tools to go around.

There's also earplugs. Neon green.

There's extra earplugs for your guests.

Cringing at the considerable construction cacaphony ~~and now done alliterating~~, Anders was at the construction site bright and early to find Xander.

"Is he okay?" he asked -- yelled, rather -- without preamble. "What did she do to him?"

"He is--" Xander gave up and shook his head, then wrote on the whiteboard.

He is NOW. Gave him heat-breath. Hurt his throat.

Anders's handwriting wasn't what you could call copperplate at the best of times, and at the moment he was just lucky it was legible at all, even if some squinting might have been required due to Shaky Hands of Rage.

And you said we couldn't seal her up inside the walls.

Xander made a gesture not suitable for prime-time television in the direction of Umbridge's office, then wiped the whiteboard.

Might be changing my mind on that.

Anders made a mental note that he'd been doing the gesture wrong ~~complete with mental cat macro~~ and nodded. A quick glance around made him realize that all the equipment, while noisy as hell, wasn't . . . necessarily being used on anything, and he grinned.

If I put on safety gear, can I help test a power screwdriver or something?

Xander wrote I see NOTHING and pointedly looked the other way.

Anders hastily wiped off the whiteboard again, leaving a breathtaking masterpiece of artwork (http://www.dyqatt.com/fh/l33tsmilezomg.jpg) behind in its place.

Pulling on a welder's visor had everything to do with safety and nothing to do with a desire for anonymity.

Really.

. . . power tools were nice and loud.

Loud and distracting all at once. Stark might even have enjoyed himself a little. But only a little.

Okay, Stark definitely was enjoying this a little. The fact that is was too loud to think about anything was definitely helping that.

Bel was fresh from his encounter with Umbridge, and was more than happy to test the power drills, imagining Umbridge's head as he did.

The power sander had potential as well. . . .

Demon hungry. And cranky.

Boyfriend hungry and cranky too, but here with food.

Hopefully that would help some with the crankiness.

"Okay, I take back what I said last night about you not being allowed to, you know, do that."

Bel eyed Anders. "How come?"

Anders jerked his head in Xander's general direction. "Found out what happened to Bridge."

This was said with considerable venom.

"What?" Bel growled, tensing. He should've just fireballed the bitch this morning.

Anders nearly squashed the sandwich he was handing Bel, his hands were shaking and tense with anger. "Some kind of spell that made his breath really hot. Xander says it hurt his throat. Bridge is way too good a guy to deserve anything like that. First Phoebe, now my best friend . . . I'm just glad she can't really do anything to hurt you."

Bel snorted. "She can try," he said. "But she probably knows she can't take me, since she didn't pull anything this morning."

"You went to see her?" demanded Anders, incredulous . . . but with a slow grin creeping across his face. He leaned over to nuzzle Bel lightly. "That's 'cause you're the best, you know."
