Detention [Saturday, 08/04]

Hannelore had stayed up all night planning detention, though students might not have realized upon entering the Danger Shop, as it was as sparse as she kept it for most of her workshops.

She'd written on a whiteboard:

Zack Addy
Dick Casablancas
Jim Halpert
Henry Jekyll

and paced while she waited for students to file in. "So, since detention is, you know, a bad thing, you guys get to deal with some of the things I hate like burning, and one of the things I love to soften the blow. It should be fun. I'm here if you need anything, and so is Winslow. You might need him, believe it or not. So...have fun, guys."

"It's just in the kitchen," Zack said, hoping there were some tools there.

"The tests were conducted by reliable science labs, yes."

"I'm just tall and why does everyone call me freakishly tall? I know people who are taller than me," Jim asked. "I'm well within acceptable heights. I don't hit my head on doorways or anything."

"Huh. So what's your explanation, then?" Faye wondered.

"For what?"

"I have to crane my neck to see you. You're freakishly tall," Faye replied.

"I'm here from the leasing office. Neighbors are complaining about the noise," Jim said.

"Your teenyness."

"It's better chiropractically if you just carry a stepladder everywhere," Jim said.

"Why's it in there?" the pink one wondered with distaste.

"Hey, what say we settle this like gentlemen and you just stay for the party?" Pintsize asked, holding out his hand (as it were) to shake. It rather obviously had some money in it. Such things happen when you have no fingers.

"I'm not teeny," Zack said.

"That's where the glasses are."

"Oh, right," the blue one said agreeably.

"I would like a tiny umbrella for mine!" the pink one exclaimed.

"You're itty-bitty and tiny, yes. And real slow on the uptake."

"Or if you just bend over so normal people can talk to you," she said.

"What are you trying to do here?" Jim asked. "Is this... a bribe?"

"Come with me and we'll see what we can do," Zack said.

"That might give me a hunchback," Jim said. "I'll inconvenience everyone else instead."

"I'm almost seventeen," Zack said. "And well within the normal height range for my gender and age group."

"Uh, just a coffee with sugar." he said. Cream was for wussies.

Jim took a wet nap and put it across his eyes.

Then he took a sleep nap.

Dick kind of wished he brought Sparkles with him. That'd put the tiny robots in their place.

He didn't want to stop them as much as he wanted to join them.

Dick hated cleaning. Cleaning upside-down probably wouldn't make his hate for it any less.

He did like the way his hair looked when he was upside-down. Like he stuck his finger in an electric socket.
