"Today, we learn about flirting," Vala told the class as they entered, bouncing a little. "It's a surprisingly useful skill, and valuable in both professional and personal contexts. The problem is how to get good at it--it's innate for some," she smirked over at Jack, "but others of you will have to work at it."

"Unfortunately, the only way to get good at flirting is to practice--so that's what I want you to do today, with as many people from the class as possible. Remember that it should be light and fun and teasing. If you can't breeze your way through a conversation, you'd be amazed how far some good old fashioned interest can get you."

"Oh, and if I hear one bad pick-up line, you have to go stand on your head in the corner."

"I-- what?" Fear was now replaced by full blown confusion, "What hippo?" Then something occurred to Irulan, "Do I look like a hippo?"

She touched her head to ensure she wasn't wearing her headdress.

"No, no, no!" Jeff said, sitting up straight, "You are lacking in any hippo-like... er, characteristics. You are very unhippolike. I was just thinking about your... er, hair! Not to say your hair resembles a hippo, it's just-- very. Er. Lumpy. I like lumps! Lumps are good."

"I have lumpy hair?" There might be a hint of an alarmed shriek creeping in her usually reserved voice and now she's frantically smoothing her hair down. "Why hasn't anyone told me about my lumpy hair?"

"I don't know!" Jeff said, already bordering on a panic attack, "But if it helps, you have excellent lumps elsewhere, too! You should cherish your lumps! Especially in the breast... area..." Now he was distracted.

"You think I'm fat!" Irulan cried, not hearing anything besides the word 'lumps'.

"No, no, of course not! I'm just talking about your breasts!" Jeff babbled, "And I don't think I'm really allowed although I'm not sure about it, but no, definitely not fat, it's just you're covered in breasts!"

Irulan opened her mouth then closed it again, this time unsure whether she should be angry or feel complimented or embarrassed.

"I... well, thank you?" she said, uncertain then tried to think of something to say then gestured to his hair, "You have an interesting hairstyle."

Yes, she was also very, very bad at this.

"Thanks," Jeff said, looking like he'd just been told he'd get shot if he didn't swallow the really disgusting thing. He got up as quickly as he could, made a bizarre and potentially obscene gesture in Irulan's direction, and dashed off, having some Very Important Questions to ask of someone with the right (read: not nerve-wracking) kind of undercarriage.
