Dealing with the Opposite Sex, Friday, Period 2, Class #3

"Today, we learn about flirting," Vala told the class as they entered, bouncing a little. "It's a surprisingly useful skill, and valuable in both professional and personal contexts. The problem is how to get good at it--it's innate for some," she smirked over at Jack, "but others of you will have to work at it."

"Unfortunately, the only way to get good at flirting is to practice--so that's what I want you to do today, with as many people from the class as possible. Remember that it should be light and fun and teasing. If you can't breeze your way through a conversation, you'd be amazed how far some good old fashioned interest can get you."

"Oh, and if I hear one bad pick-up line, you have to go stand on your head in the corner."

Jo leant back and watched her classmates while she waited.

Animal approached Jo in the suave way only he had.

Which of course is : Not at all.

"WOOOO-MAN! WOOOO-MAN!"

Jo stared at Animal a long moment, then shrugged and pointed.

"AN-I-MAL! AN-I-MAL!"

Animal... was impressed.

Finally! A girl who speaks his kind of language!

He pushed back some of his mane from his face and did what he thought was an attractive hair flip but really it just looked like he was having a hyperactive seizure.

"WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-MAN!" he said in an appreciative tone.

Jo nodded, and pointed to Animal then herself "WOOOOOO-MAN, AN-I-MAL, DANCE?"

Animal whipped his head up and down so fast and with such ferocity it'd be amazing if he didn't give himself a concussion.

Then again? That' would explain a lot.

"DANCE! UH-HUH! UH-HUH!"

He then started doing a hyperkinetic version of the Watusi.

Hey, if it worked, it worked. Jo started dancing along.

"DANCE WOOOO-MAN! DANCE!" Animal shouted as he bounced around with his head in the air.

Not unlike a certain beagle who was owned by a certain round headed kid from a certain comic strip and various holiday specials.

Sam figured it would probably be safest to start flirting with someone he knew already.

"Hey Jo," he said, trying not to sound weirded out.

"Hey Sam," Jo nodded. "Nice day."

"Yeah, it is a nice day. Almost the weekend and everything." God, he was so bad at this. "So...how have your workshops been going? I hope all your teachers have been being good to you."

"So far," Jo nodded. "How about yours?"

"So far," he said with a grin. "I've been doing my best to stay away from the crazy teachers. Except for Anakin, but he's actually been pretty sane lately."

"Probably has something to do with the radio saying he was dating," Jo said.

"That would explain why he was in a good mood yesterday. He was smiling and everything."

"Good dates tend to lead to good moods," Jo agreed.

"I hope that's something you learned from personal experience."

Jo grinned broadly. "Let's just say the TA knows his stuff."

"Oh really?" Sam smirked at her. "Does your mom know that he knows his stuff?"

"He asked her for permission to date," Jo said. "And didn't end up shot." It was clear from her tone that the second impressed Jo even more than the first.

Luckily, Sam understood how impressive that was. "He must really know what he's doing. Is he imparting his wisdom onto you?"

Jo smiled and nodded. "Enough," she said, and blushed a little. "I mean it's not like we've done too much."

"But enough that you're smiling," Sam said. "That's good. That's really good."

"Yeah, it is," Jo said. "How are you and Dawn?"
