Flight & Flying [Thursday, July 26, 3rd period]

Anakin never bounced. It was undignified. But he was awfully smile-y today.

And no, he wouldn't explain why.

The flight simulator had been reconfigured again--this time to something that should seem a bit more familiar to Earth-based students: The F-16 Flying Falcon.

Anakin clasped his hands behind his back and began speaking. "This is one of the aircraft used by the militaries of this world," he began. "It's good in air-to-air combat as well as air-to-surface attack, can go more than 850 kilometers before it needs to be refueled and can withstand up to nine G's--pretty high tech for this world's standards."

He opened the simulator door and gestured to the controls. "As you can see, it's configured differently than the systems we've been using in the last few weeks, but the joystick and the trigger button are located in the same place. The F-16 just isn't as sensitive as the starfighter--you'll have to yank harder at the joystick to get the same reaction."

The way his lips quirked up made it a little obvious that he wasn't entirely oblivious to the innuendo that might've been found in that statement. "You'll also be dealing with the Earth's gravity, so turns won't be as fast, and if you make the plane go up too quickly, the machine's been equipped to simulate G forces, so you might pass out. That's not exactly what I had in mind for today, so please don't do that," he concluded quickly.

Irulan nodded, "The Spice melange... it's the only way our pilots are able to find pathways to other systems and galaxies." She paused, "Fly *into* stars?"

Irulan mulled this over and tried to explain her universe's version of Spice. "In my empire Spice is the most important commodity in the whole Known Universe, it prolongs life and allows one to see the future or pathways humans do not normally see."

Irulan's lips quirked, it wasn't quite a smile. "It does seem preposterous but it is very true, enough that all of humanity is addicted to it."

"Aside from longevity and gaining the Sight?" Irulan cocked her head, "It turns ones eyes blue, in extreme cases and through heavy usage it mutates the person into something other than human." Irulan pulled out a holoscan and showed it to Anakin, "That's what the Guild Pilots and Navigators (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/25/Dir_05_edric.jpg) have become."

"A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away my people were enslaved by computers and machines, one might say they're still paranoid about that." She sounded both exasperated and apologetic all at once. "For them, us, this seems a far better alternative."

"My people had cause," she said, defensive even though she shared the same sentiment.

"Well, I am trying to find a way to make it better, aren't I?" She returned. "It isn't exactly easy to perform a one woman revolution."

Irulan blanched and realized what she'd blurted out, aloud and suddenly turned 'round as if expecting Guild and Bene Gesserit spies to come out of the wood work.

Every line of Irulan's body spoke tension even if it became clear there were no guards storming the room.

"Thank you, sir," she murmured, "It is difficult sometimes..." she cut of the line of thought and repeated, "Thank you, professor, I shall had in my paper next week."

She wanted to say more but restrained herself and settled with a nod mirroring his, "Professor."

She gathered her things and left, still a little shaken.
