Accelerated Scouting: Week Three, Period 5

Even though Dale had told everyone to wear a swimsuit and meet at the pool in the last workshop, he had handwavily sent out a reminder e-mail for everyone late last week.

As the students enter the pool area they not only see your standard swimming supplies but they would also see small inflatable canoes with plastic paddles, life jackets, water wings, some craft supplies and... a kiddie pool.

Dale is also wearing your standard lifeguard gear including red swimming trunks and a whistle

For the record: Dale Cooper looks nothing like David Hasslehoff.

"Today kids, we are going to be working on three merit badges. Swimming, canoeing, and underwater basket weaving; which is exactly like basket weaving just... underwater."

"And if you don't know how to swim... Well, that's what the kiddie pool is for and we'll work on your ability."

After lecturing everyone on water safety, canoe safety, basket weaving technique, he gave a brief blast of his whistle. "All right! I didn't have time to get everyone's merit badges for last week but you all were awarded with the Hiking and the Fish and Wildlife Management merit badges from last week's hike. *More Tweets* Okay! Everyone into the pool! No running!"

You can either just try and meet the requirements for swimming or... just dunk people and have splash fights. That's what happens anyway.

Claire wasn't a particularly strong swimmer, but she was passable, getting the distance and diving categories over quickly. Then she looked aroundfor someone to splash violently assist her with the rest.

Dean was just glad that they hadn't had to wear the dorky uniforms this week. He was a strong swimmer -- his Dad had made sure of that as part of his training -- so he tried for the badge.

Ami is an excellent swimmer, and took the opportunity to swim the whole time. Plus, she wants the badge.

Dick was a great swimmer so he went to meet the badge requirements.

And if he could do that and dunk people at the same time, bonus.

Swimming! Yay! Turtle went about doing all the required stuff pretty well, and then would get to splashing and having fun. She was, after all, very good at budgeting time.

Z was a fairly good swimmer, having spent a lot of time at the beach in California (beaches were free!). So she decided to try for her merit badge.

Then she looked around for someone to splash and/or dunk.

Naminé swam a few laps and tried for her badge requirements. If only every class could be at the pool.

There are one and two people inflatable canoes. Again either try to make the requirements or just do what inevitably happens and swamp other people's boats.

Turtle wanted to get plenty of badges, so she made sure to allow some time to commandeer a canoe and paddle her way to victory!

And then try to see if she could manage to run into other people. Mwa ha ha.

Underwater Basketry!

Which is just like basketry. Except you hold the reeds underneath the water and make baskets.

You do not have to completely submerge yourself to do the activity.

Unless of course you LIKE drowning.
