Egyptian Archaeology
Hello and welcome to the first Egyptian Archaeology course. Sign-ups are still open until next Wednesday, September 14th. We only have 5 people with a maximum of 15.
For your first class, I would like you to go around the room, introduce yourself. Tell us your name, your year, your major, where you live, and if you've visited Egypt, feel free to share that as well.
Because I didn't post a formal syllabus, I shall post it now.
Course: AN 110 - Egyptian Archaeology (3 Credits)
Instructor: Daniel Jackson - Surrey 316, ext 7522. Office Hours: Tu, Th 9:00-11:00
Course Purpose: To be able to identify important artifacts from Egyptian Archaeology and use it to determine what the Egyptians were really like.
Class: Surrey 210, MWF 10:10-11:00
Required Material: The book should be in the bookstore, but if not, they are currently on reserve at the library. Egyptian Archaeology by Fred Esther, Ph.D. You will also be looking at a lot of slides which I have uploaded online on my website.
Grading: This class will be graded as follows: Final(25%), Two exams(15% each), Homework(15%), Slide Identification (15%), Class Participation (15%)
Make-Up Policies: You are expected to attend each class, especially those with exams. Please see me if you are not going to be able to attend an exam, and we shall make the necessary accomodations.
Please arrive to class on time. Turn off any cell phones to avoid distractions. Please come to class prepared and having read the readings. All reading will be posted at my website, so check it each day to find out what your homework is.
Now that we have that taken care of, I shall let you break early from class. Please read the first chapter of Egyptian Archaeology and be prepared to discuss it in class on Friday.
