[Creatures of Nature - 5th Period, 7/23]

For once, D had the class meet in the Danger Shop, if only because it gave him the ability to choose his environment to a much greater degree. And so the Danger Shop seemed to be a very large outdoor arena, with a half-mile race track in the middle and a larger moat around it.

"You may have noticed that we are in the simulated environment room," D said with a faint note of distaste. "This will hopefully be the only time this is an issue, but I did not want anyone to hurt themselves to a degree that would preclude this sort of class in the future. Hence, we are here."

Leading everyone to a corral, he brought forth two animals by their reins -- one a horse and the second looking to be a very large chicken bird.

"These are a horse," he began, indicated the creature on his right. "And a chocobo. They are both used for transportation and, at times, for menial labor. Some of you may be familiar with one or both of these creatures and some of you may not, but you will all have a chance to ride one or the other today. Whichever you choose, be courteous and kind, or if you decide to race then be careful as well."

D went through some very basic horse/birdmanship and then went to the moat around the arena, where there was, half-submerged in the water, what looked like a giant elephantine creature with a pavilion on its back. "I will be on the shoopuf," he called back to the class. "Any who don't wish to ride may come join me and any who are thrown or otherwise about to be hurt in any way will find themselves summarily transported to a seat on the shoopuf's back for the duration of class. I have iced tea and cookies!"

It's a bright sunny day out and the animals are weird - even the horse, depending on who you are.

Horses? Not weird. He'd ridden horses. Albeit not very well, but he had. He might even try again.
Chocobos? Not so different from ostriches, with the exception of being a lot better looking as far as giant, flightless chicken birds were concerned. He might even say hi. He probably wouldn't want to ride one.

The Shoopuf? Even Raph -who was obviously a giant talking turtle, and had little room to gawk at much of anything- found that thing weird. He didn't want to go near it, let alone ride on it.

Yes, he'd definitely steer clear of the strange, ear-less, elephant-butterfly (just look at that proboscis!) with the butt-fin...

No, the horses weren't weird to Alphonse either. He was very used to seeing them, coming from a country town and all. The chocobos and shoopuf, however... those definitely did make him blink twice.

The chocobos were definitely enough to make Sam stare. Sure, he'd never been on a horse, but at least he knew what horses were.

The horses were beautiful creatures, and the chocobos made her want to clap her hands with glee. The shoopuf ... was definitely unusual.

Naminé wondered if she would get detention for sketching during class.

Dawn was staring at the chocobos and the horse and then peeked at Sam, wondering how he'd feel about her riding anything.

There are a lot of horses which you can ride in this corral. They are sweet-tempered things, for the most part.

Raph went to look at the horses. At least he knew how to saddle one, and what it felt like to ride one. . . and to fall off of one. . . Repeatedly.

If he was going to ride, he wanted to find one that wouldn't mind him, or his considerable weight. He went to the tethered horses each in turn, seeing if any of them seemed spooky at his presence.

Chocobo!

They are large birds, so don't worry about squashing them. Also they say "Wark!" It's like riding an ostrich only a million times more adorable, really.

Racing!

Take your animal here to race! You can race a chocobo against a horse, horse against a horse or a chocobo against a chocobo! Plz communicate OOCly to determine a winner. Chocobos and horses are fairly well matched.

Since she was still sprained, Dawn decided (rather reluctantly) to sit out the riding and racing portion of the day. Plus, iced tea and cookies.

The shoopuf was very squishy and comfy, so that was fun.
