Potpourri - Monday - July, 23, 2007

When the students came out to the main campfire on Tuesday morning they would notice that Buster wasn't anywhere to be found. Or so they thought. Only those with a keen eye would notice Buster hiding behind a tree. When everyone had arrived he crept up quietly to the class. Even then he might not be noticed. No, the students might not notice that their teacher was there until he coughed and said "Heeeey students."

"Today we'll be learning how to be neither seen or heard. I'm an expert at this due to me spending many years at the Milford Academy. It's a useful skill. You can avoid anybody you don't want to see or you can use it to pick up information. The latter may backfire because you might find out things you didn't ever, ever want to know. Horrible things about your mother." Buster shivered. "Ugh."

"Now, the most important thing about being neither seen or heard is the way you dress. Anybody can dress up in all black and put on goofy makeup to keep yourself from being seen but won't you feel stupid if you're caught? But if you dress up in floral prints and wear a lot of pastels people won't think you're worth their time and not notice you there. Or they're think you are "special" and won't mind spilling their secrets around you." he said. "Hiding in plain sight, that's what being neither seen or heard is all about."

"Also, no talking. I cannot stress how important this is. Some people just can't shut their traps and that makes other people untrusting of them." he said. "When you must talk be polite and keep sentences short. I have gone days without talking and nobody in my family noticed."

"So today we're going to do two activities that will prepare you for being neither seen or heard. The no talking game and hide and seek!" said Buster. "I know you know them well."

"And for homework I want you to hide in plain sight sometime this week. Dress inconspicuously. See what kind of information you can find out from people." he said. "Or maybe someone will care enough to try to find out where you are. But that's rare. The only time someone wanted to find me was to help them zip up their dress."

[It's up!]

Try? Hell yeah. Chad grinned slightly (the No Talking game seemed to have made him forget that he could actually speak and vocalize right now) and started running. And he could be pretty quick for his size. Not that it'll probably help here.

Chuckling, Johnny took off after him. Chad was huge, but Johnny was thinking he might be the faster runner here. And if not, he wondered if he could fly and not get in trouble?

As Chad worked on avoiding Johnny, he wondered...if you had to be tagged, there had to be a safespot, right? Or was he pretty much doomed?

Hide and seek sucked.

"Come on, Chad! I'm right behind you buddy!" Johnny chanted, racing to keep up. Really, he could almost just reach out and touch him...

And Chad could tell that the proximity was that significant. If he kept going like this, he'd get caught, no problem. So he tried something else. It always worked with the border cops, anyway. He stopped, suddenly, and turned, then darted straight to the side, then forward, in a daring attempt to rush right by Johnny.

...And he realized he was probably a lot better, quicker, adile back when he was nine and doing this rather than now.

Johnny would have barreled right into him had Chad not moved quickly to the side, and forward right past by him. Turning around he laughed and shot forward, coming abreast of Chad in a matter of a few seconds. He waved, "How's it going?"

Chad lifted a hand in a wave back. "Still haven't tagged me," he noted, and then put a surge of energy to launch him forward.

Woe the fate of anyone getting in either of their way right now.

"I'm biding my time," he smirked and ran faster, keeping up. "Great day for a run, isn't it!"

Road kill. That is what they would become did they get in their way right now.

Johnny reached out to tap Chad on the shoulder.

Chad's attempt to lean forward to avoid the reach left him without paying very much attention to his feet, which caught up in each other and he stumbled forward. Worked well to avoid getting tagged, not so well in trying to keep on his feet...

And when Chad stumbled, Johnny moved in closer to try to keep Chad from eating dirt. So, of course, it was easy to lay his hands on him.

"Kuso!" Chad grunted as he'd realized he'd been caught (because it was always cooler to swear in different languages), but, hey, at least he wasn't face first in the dust, right?

Johnny stood back and gave Chad a cheeky grin, "Gotcha."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Chad rubbed the back of his neck. "Guess that means I'm 'it' now?"

Re: Hide And Seek

[identity profile] fantastic-torch.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"I believe the last person that I find is it," he shrugged. "At least that's how I played it when I was a kid and how Johnny's playing it with the others omg."

"Oh, so I'm just out? And sit around and wait until the next round like I would have if I still was hiding...."

Chad shook his head. "Hide and seek is weird."

Re: Hide And Seek

Johnny shrugged, grinning, "Something like that."

"Dude, did you honestly think you wouldn't be found?"

Re: Hide And Seek

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"No," Chad shook his head. "I knew it was hopeless from the start...." He sighed. "Really, really hopeless. Least I kicked ass on the no-talking one."

Re: Hide And Seek

[identity profile] fantastic-torch.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"I did too although Buster gave up on me pretty damn early." Johnny smirked.

"Same here; guess he can just call 'em when he sees 'em."

Re: Hide And Seek

"Yep, cause I was so not caving in."

Re: Hide And Seek

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"You, uh..." Chad rubbed the back of his neck a little, decided to leave the statement unsaid. Yeah, he knew Johnny could be pretty good at the not caving in thing, but he shouldn't be thinking about that anyway. "You should probably get to finding everyone else. Not gonna be as easy as me."

Re: Hide And Seek

[identity profile] fantastic-torch.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"I what?" Yeah, Johnny wasn't leaving that one alone - not yet. Not after, well, no sense in thinking about that.

Re: Hide And Seek

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Should get back," Chad nodded; that was totally what he was going to say in the first place, really. "To finding everyone else. And...stuff."

Re: Hide And Seek

[identity profile] fantastic-torch.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Johnny raised his brows, staring at Chad.

"Right. Okay. I'm going now." He took a step back.
