Potpourri - Monday 7/16

When the students arrived at the main campfire on Tuesday they would see there were a stack of plain looking tribal drums on a table. On Buster's table there was a basket full of glitter, glue, feathers and other moddable decorating stuff. When everyone was seated Buster clapped his hands (he was wearing his fake hand today) together and began to speak.

"Heeeeeey everyone. So today we are going to learn a bit about Indian Tribal Ceremonies. Indians lived here in America before Christopher Columbus came and gave all of them syphilis. Busy man, that guy. They didn't wear shirts and were the inventors of face painting." said Buster. He had no idea what he was talking about. "And they are also the ones who defeated the dinosaurs. Obviously they didn't do a very good job of it."

"Anyways, Indians used to drums to express how they feel during these ceremonies. They also um...drummed. A lot." Buster said. He paused for a moment. "Use every part of the buffalo."

"So you've got your drums on that table over there. They're a little plain but that's why I've got all this stuff from the store!" he said, sticking his fake hand in the basket on his desk. When he pulled it out it was covered in glitter and feathers. "Decorate them up! Try not to get any of the feathers near your face. You could poke an eye out."

"After you're done decorating them I'm going to give you a ceremony the Indians performed back in the day." said Buster. "And you just play what you feel. Maybe include a little dance or something...lyrics are always encouraged! And you get to keep the drums. Perhaps you can play at a Bar Mitzvah or something."

"And as a special added bonus that has nothing to do with the lecture, Chad was kind enough to bring in his kitty cat!" said Buster excitedly. "I love it when you guys get involved like this!"

"Oh, and before I forget. Next week we are going to learn how to be neither seen nor heard. So wear something that's inconspicuous." he said. "Sweater vests are always good. Nothing that makes you look like a trashy whore."

[OCD up!]

Jeff was still staring at his drum. "...What's it for?" he asked, tapping the skin with his fingers. It may have been to the rhythm of 'The Bad Touch'.

"...Okay," Jeff said, totally lost. None the less, he started banging away on the drum, singing something garbled about holding out, stout, Doctor Indians and women. It might have actually made for a decent Broadway hit if he'd remembered the actual amount of flavors Buster had mentioned and hadn't ended up with something slightly more obscene instead.

He really got into it near the end.

"Well, you know," Jeff said, slightly uncomfortable now that he'd stopped performing, "These things are bound to happen when you're shaking it..."

Gwynn was a bit confused about all of this ceremony stuff.

Gwynn... stared at him. "Huh?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about."

Lucas stared for a few moments, then followed the instructions. Sadly without gusto.

Johnny wasn't sure about this whole ceremony stuff, but he stood resolute and waited for Buster to assign him one.

"The Indians should have let her ride one of their many ponies, maybe she wouldn't have gotten so round." Johnny started beating his drum, slowly. "Maybe if she got to ride and bounce everyday it wouldn't matter how much ice cream and chocolate she ate. Let's face it - Dairy makes you think of a cow. Or two. More even." He beat his drum and looked at Buster. "She earned her reputation early on."

And, thus, Chad and Prince Oscar Pedro were prepared for their ceremony.

Chad took a moment to look down at Prince Oscar Pedro; the kitten looked back up at Chad and meowed. Chad grunted. //"Yeah, that's what I thought, too,"// he responded to the cat in Japanese then sighed. //"You got the signing, right?"//

And that he did. Chad beat out a pretty good rhythm (anyone paying extra close attention would recognize it as the drumline from Zeppelin's Kashmir), and the kitten let out a chorus of scratchy meows, sure to entice any hamster, indeed. Especially glue bearing ones. That they were both convinced didn't actually exist, but they could humour someone as much as the next guy.

Finished with decorating, Donnie waited for his assigned ceremony. Not that he thought this was authentic, but he was definitely learning to go with the flow in these classes.

"...Runway music?" Donatello asked blankly. "I don't even know what that sounds like."
