201--Trust Me

Good morning gang. Ok, we're working with a theme of trust this week. Last week was influence and persuasion, so this week I'd like you to prep a speech in which you persuade me to trust you. What do you feel trust is all about? Why should I, the biggest chicken on the teaching staff, trust you? In what ways will you persuade me? Keep in mind the appeals to your character, utilizing specific evidence, and appealing to my emotions. Start brainstorming, you can feel free to ask me questions. This will be helpful for those of you involved in these elections we've got going on...politics is all about presenting the information and getting people on your side. You'll present this Thursday, keep it short. 3-5 minutes. Ok, go.

301--Trust Games

*All the desks have been pushed to the back of the class in a heap. There will be no sitting today.*

Morning, guys. OK, first. Someone may have had a reaction to the drinks from yesterday. I just wanted to make it absolutely clear that I didn't do anything that would harm you. If you felt anything, it was just a little lidocaine. These are trust games. Keep that in mind.

Now, yesterday I saw some intereting things. Some of you have real trust issues...and I don't just mean those who refused to drink. Sydney and Chiana probably have very good reasons behind their behavior. However, others in this class, I'm amazed at how readily you trusted me...I understand your situation, really. I'm up here, I have the political power in this classroom. You ought to be able to trust me to keep you safe, and, in theory, teach you something. However, what if I am intentionally misleading you? I clearly wrote on the board NOT to drink what was in the cups before you ever got here. Why did my words convince you otherwise? Hmm...

Ok, moving on.

So yesterday we saw your level of trust regarding me. Today we're going to work on your trust with one another.

Personal space varies from culture to culture. Part of this is how a person is taught to value their body, and part has to do with the environment in which a person was raised. However, all cultures, when faced with a stranger, tend to be wary and will only let people get so close to them. So here's our game for the day. I want you to pair up with someone...anyone. I want you to stand, facing each other, 1 meter apart. You will take turns disclosing personal details...not deeply personal please. Your pet's name, your shoe size...I don't really care, I just don't want this to get more uncomfortable than it will.

Ok, with each disclosure take a step forward. IF you get to physical contact, I want you to hold that for as long as possible. When you become uncomfortable, please feel free to take a step back.

If anyone winds up without a partner, you can use me. *Blinks* I mean I'll be your partner.

Sydney walks over to him. "Uh since you kinda saved my life, want to be my partner for this...thing?"

Sure. Want me to start? Um... when I was a kid everyone thought I was a little girl. Mostly because Mom kept putting me in pink dresses. *takes probably a larger step than necessary forward, although not so much as to immediately crowd Sydney*

"I have trust issues, mainly because from my experience, trust leads to betrayal." Sydney tells him, and then takes an awkward step forward.

Um... favorite color? Green. *reasonable step forward*

Sydney nods. "I wear a lot of disguises" She takes another step forward.

Um... *deletes the size comment he was going to make* I have really become addicted to Pringles since coming to ~~the 21st century~~ Fandom High.

*takes last step forward and is lightly brushing against Sydney. Doesn't move*

"I've been really hiding since I came to fandom high, I don't feel like I fit in." Sydney steps a bit closer, and now they are touching, pretty close. She feels awkward but doesn't move.

*bites tongue on "fitting" comment, 'cause he's trying to be *good*, damnit*

I'm a big fan of Celine Dion. And, uh, not in the 'can't get a date' way.

*since they're already touching, Jack brings up one hand to rest on Sydney's shoulder; not caging her in, just another point of contact*

"My dad has a very covert job" Sydney says and puts her hand on his shoulder as well, she was starting to be a little more okay with this

I'm a Saggitarius. *puts other hand on her shoulder, which brings him a little closer to hugging her*

"I'm an Aries." Sydney told him, putting her hand on his other shoulder, almost like they were...dancing or something

Jack slides a hand down to her lower back. With a grin and without sharing anything, he suddenly dips her backwards.

Sydney smirked a little, now it really was like they were dancing. She suspected he was quite the charmer.

Jack brings her back upright. "Yeah, I think you trust me. Are you going to Homecoming? Wanna dance for real?"

"I'm going to homecoming...Marshall was going to go with me, but I think it's cuz he feels sorry for me, since I haven't really made any connections here." Sydney said.

Jack grins. "Bring him along. More the merrier, right? Either way, will you save a dance for me?"

"Maybe it's just because you basically saved my life, but you're very charming." Sydney admitted, maybe trusting some people wasn't so bad after all.

"So... is that a yes, or at least a maybe?"

Sydney laughs. "That's a yes." she says with a playful smirk, she kinda liked him.

Jack smiled again, let's her go, and bows and kisses her hand. "Great."

"A gentleman, I like that. Don't see many of them these days." Sydney smirked a bit more, he had definitely gotten her to loosen up a little and maybe she needed it.

"I'm from another era," Jack assured her, wide-eyed with innocence.

[ooc: What Sydney may not know is that Jack really doesn't get the whole "only ask one person to Homecoming" thing... hence inviting Marshell along. And one of his other dates may ~~drive her into a frothing fury~~ startle her. FYI.]

Sydney nodded, smirking a bit. "Well it suits you."

(OOC: That's alright, I'm sure Sydney won't be too mad plus it wasn't exactly a formal invitation so she'd just think, you know a bunch of people going as friends type of deal)

*CJ notices their close contact*

OK, you two...these are trust games, not sex ed. If you're done, you can go. Think about your reactions. We'll work more tomorrow.

*Is slightly jealous of Sydney. Realizes that is completely innaproprate. Walks away.*
