How to Blow Things Up: Period 1, Week 1

Not caring about the heat, Aly waited for her class outside in a small clearing.  She might have possibly noticed the heat, but she would have scoffed at a suggestion that it was too much to be outside in.

"Good morning, everyone," she said with a bright grin.  "For those of you I don't know or who don't know me, I'm Alianne of Pirate's Swoop.  You may feel free to call me Aly if you like, nearly everyone does.  Miss Aly is right out though.  Right out.  This class is How to Blow Things Up.  Which means we are going to practice blowing things up over and over."  She grinned again.  "Trust me, it's fun."

"Not today yet.  Today I want to get to know you all and go over a few things before anything gets blown up.   First of all, not all of our classes are going to be in the Danger Shop.  We're going to be working with real explosives with the real possibility of people getting hurt.  That means that if we're working with them and I tell you to do something, you need to do it immediately.  No questions, no what-ifs, no counterpoints, get down or get out of the way or stop what you're doing." 

"If that's going to be a problem for you, you need to go find another class now."

"Explosives aren't toys, they're not playthings, even when we're in the Danger Shop, they're not completely harmless.  I want to see complete respect when you're working with them.  They're fun, yes.  But they're also a weapon."

"Secondly, this is a class about true explosives - C4, hand grenades, TNT, the like.  We're going to have a class on magical ways, but outside of that , if you have special abilities that allows you to blow up things - or set them on fire - I'd prefer the focus stay on the more chemical explosives."

"Finally," she began passing out what looked like floorplans from the old school.  "Someone else already beat us to it, of course, but for the last class, you're each going to design a strategy for blowing up the school.  Take the floorplans, take a look at them, and keep the project in mind as the workshop progresses."

She paused, watching the class.  "Now that that's out of the way, why don't you all introduce yourselves - even those I've already met, yes, and tell me a bit about yourself as well as your familiarity or experience with making things go boom.  Also, it's my birthday, and I've been instructed that I need to celebrate it so please help yourself to a birthday cupcake."

"I'm Annette Hargrove," she said, looking around the class. "I love pie. My favorite color is pink. And Blue. Um, I'm a cheerleader. I tend to talk too much. I never had a pet when I was growing up. When I buy a box of chocolates I tend to eat them all at once. Oh! You said three things! Right!Sorry!" She sat down quickly.

"My name is Setsuna Sakurazaki," she started introducing herself. "I, uh...two weeks ago, this part of my arm was barely even connected to it." She pointed to the pink scar on her upper right arm; using that as an introduction point was working out pretty damn well. "I, got to the second to last teir of the Mahorafest fighting tournament a year ago, which is...something, I guess. And, um..." She let out a chuckle, "my hair actually naturally does this," she pointed to the distinctive side ponytail. "I don't use gel or anything. It's weird."

St. John wandered over to his new teacher, munching casually on birthday cupcake. She seemed strict about her criteria to him, but that was easily accepted.

Things were going to explode. Things were going to explode in various ways, and that was just dandy.

"So," John began, licking frosting off his fingers, and ignoring the stuff around his face--how it got on his forehead and cheekbones, one could only question.

"Happy Birthday an' stuff, uh...Aly." John made it a habit to write things girls adamantly claimed to dislike. One too many slaps to the face in his short life.

"Get any pressies this year? Like a large wooden badger loaded with C4 or somethin'?" He wanted to know for two reasons: One, if she did receive an exploding badger, he wanted to get one. Two, if she didn't, then chances were no one had invented it, and he'd have a new summer project.
