Construction [Monday]

Fraser was here totally on time omg and stocking a cooler full of water and ice.

"It's going to be hot today," he said, nodding. "Please be careful, keep hydrated and take a break if you need to. The school is not as important as your health."

He gestured at the safety equipment before heading back to the construction site.

"Oh, all right." Anders made a big show of conceding, complete with sad-puppy face. "May as well be some sort of good influence on you."

Anders frowned as he wrestled with a recalcitrant Gatorade bottletop. "I don't -- see, that's the thing. Seriously, I don't really want to be one. The powers would be cool, sure, but that guy was a serious creep, using sex as a tool like that and everything. Just wish I could poof around from place to place like you do, sometimes."

"There are different types of Darklighters," Bel said, rummaging through the picnic basket for a sandwich. "Some spread evil by knocking up women. Others curse innocents with bad luck."

Anders grimaced. "Yeah, not really wanting to be either of those."

"Good," Bel said. "No Darklighter for you."

He didn't have other reasons for that, not at all.

"Have a nice relaxing work day?" asked Anders, sensing there was a little awkwardness about the subject. "Must be nice not having to deal with McKnight any more."

"I never got the chance to bury him in the foundation," Bel grumbled. He looked at Anders. "Did you go to say goodbye to him?"

"Yeah," Anders admitted. "I know he's still embarrassed about hooking up with me last year, and that's probably why he's been such a jerk. I guess I just wanted to prove I was bigger than that."

"You twitched," Anders said, fixing Bel with a don't-deny-it look. "Does it really bug you that he and I had a thing?"

"It was a long time ago," Anders said, taking the lack of an answer to be . . . well, a pretty clear one. "I'm your boyfriend, not his. Nothing to worry about."

At least until the end of the -- yeah, still not thinking about that.

"Yes, you big dork," Anders told him affectionately, leaning over to rest his head on Bel's shoulder. "Yours. We've been over this."
