Construction Site: Friday July 6th, all day

Xander's back at the construction site, and so are the tools and safety gear. So are doughnuts, because he stopped by J,GoB on the way here.

Today's nonstandard hardhat is... well, it's yellow. Yellow is good, right? "Eat the last of the jellies and I'll make you wear the new hat," Xander threatens. No, he won't.

Andrew, of course, recognized Xander from the halls of Sunnydale High. Heck, he even knew his name. Andrew new most of the older boy's names at school.

"Xander. Hi." Andrew stuck out his hand, "I'm Andrew Wells, but you seems to know that already..."

Yeah, he was blushing.

Wow, he was young. You'd think Xander would be used to that, what with mini-Buffy, but apparently not, because it still had him blinking for a second.

He reached to shake Andrew's hand, though. "Uh, yeah. Guessing you might've got the Time Here Is Wacky speech already?"

"Yeah, a few times. So are you relieved that I'm not some older version of myself? Because I seem to be getting that lot. The relieved bit." He thought for a second, "Well, maybe you shouldn't say. Dawn said talking about it could cause the world to explode."

And for good dorky measure, in bad pirate vibrato, he added, "Argh."

"The whole worldsplody thing's a little risky, yeah," Xander answered slowly, trying to decide if 'Don't be evil' counted as messing with somebody's timeline or just, y'know, good advice.

Also whether the arrgh was in reaction to that possibility, or a sign that he had one more person to try his joke about not making it into the Pirates' Union on.

"Wow. Xander." Andrew stared, just a bit.

"You know, Dawn and I were, are... will someday be friends and coworkers. She's a sweet girl. Are we friends? Chums? Are you going for something there with the eye patch?" This all came out very fast.

"Training the other eye to develop superhuman vision," Xander answered, this time without blinking. Then, "Chums?" It wasn't meant to be an answer, just the verbal equivalent of headdesking.

"Oh, cool," Andrew said, turning his head away and discretely shutting one eye to take a quick look around before turning back. "Chums! Compadres! Buddies, pals, partners..." He took a breath, ready to go on...

"Prime source for new comic-book scans?" Not that older Andrew had e-mailed him the latest Ninth Wonders issue yet. "Yeah, I guess, sort of. Like Dawn said, we work for the same people."

"Outstanding." He gave Xander a crisp nod and a closer look.

Andrew's expression went a little wiggy - something between a smile and look of nausea. This was an older Xander than the one he had seen in the halls at Sunnydale High. Dawn had been new to him. Mr. Giles, well, he had always just been old. Seeing Xander, knowing that he knew some mythical older Andrew, that they could be friends, brought the entire bizarre nature of this place crashing in.

"Look, Xander. I, uh... I need to get back to the dorm. I was making coffee this morning and think I might have left the microwave on." He started walking away. "Don't want the coffee mug to get, um, radioactive. See ya' around."

And now Xander couldn't decide if that was the lamest excuse to skedaddle and have a Fandom-related freakout since I have to go home and oil my tentacles, or if he should really be worried for the dorm-building. A. Let's go with A. One re-construction project at a time.

"Oookaay, then. You might wanna check into getting one of those newfangled ones that turns itself off - I think they sell 'em at Turtle & Canary."
