Construction Site [Tuesday]

With the knowledge that more new students have arrived, Fraser's almost itchy to get the school rebuilt. He's been dreaming about foundation, metal, scaffolding and concrete lately. Those do not make for the most exciting dreams.

"Good morning," he said. "Please equip yourself with the proper safety equipment. I hope you all had a good time at the picnic if you attended. It's a nice day and progress is still on track. Come find me if you need me."

It's kind of hard to eat when you've got your face locked into the pained fake-smile grimace, but bless his heart, Conner was giving it a shot anyway.

But here was Gwynn... with food, and her own forced cheerfulness. She was determined that she would do something to make him amile even a little.

"You brought me lunch," Conner said, a real smile slipping through the fake one for just a moment as he scooted over to make room for her on the bench beside him. "You're the best."

Gwynn gave him a soft smile. "You need food and... Cafe Fina has good food."

Gwynn? Not so much with the knowing how to cook.

Conner's jaw dropped. "You got me food from there? Really?"

That definitely warranted a kiss.

Gwynn was happy with the kissing, yes.

"Getting you food from there spares you being made sick by me trying to make food for you."

Hey, look, another real smile. "You can't be worse than me," Conner said -- with a slight gulp, because he was going to have to cook for himself for the next couple of months, with his parents being away on some Alaskan cruise and Eric . . . well, better him cooking than Eric.

Gwynn kissed his cheek and then smiled at him. "What are you doing later this evening after work?"

"Just packing," Conner replied, looking sulky about it.

Yeah, she looked a little sulky about that, too.

"Would you... would you like to come hang out in my room with me later?"

"You know I would," Conner answered. "I'm just about done with packing anyway."

It made his side of the room pretty empty and depressing, so an invitation to be elsewhere was definitely welcome.
