Construction Site: Monday 7/2, all day

The work's very light today, since Xander knows the graduates and their usual oglers may want to hit the Welcome Picnic in the park and meet the new students.

"The NPC Construction guys've got the heavy work today. There's just a bit of moving and cleaning up for you to work on, then if you want to head off to the picnic, go for it. Or hit that first and come back in the afternoon; your call."

The usual safety stuff and hardhats are out, along with plenty of bottled water, since it looks to be one of Those days.

Once again there was an alien trying to keep busy. Once again he was marginally successful.

Bel pondered what he was going to do after leaving Fandom as he worked. Construction work might be an option. Though his strength might raise some eyebrows in the normal world.

Conner was pretty quiet and subdued today as he worked -- as much as he was looking forward to getting his soccer camp off the ground, he really didn't want to leave Fandom at the end of the week.

There's some light snacks out, but Xander's guessing people might hit the picnic instead. ~~Or possibly just long enough to scrounge up a lunch instead of bringing their own.~~

Now Bel pondered lunch, if it was going to magically appear (as always) or if he should go to the picnic.

Well, Anders wasn't the magical one of Bel's SOs, but he did have a habit of making lunch appear.

As today.

There were fruit salad, bottled water, and three varieties of cold Gatorade to go with the usual sandwiches (roast beef, turkey, and chicken salad).

See, Anders was a nice boyfriend.

"Excellent," Bel grinned. "You have saved me a walk into town."

"You have so little faith in me," Anders said, giving him a scolding look. "Don't I always make sure you don't starve?"

"Mmm hmm," Bel said. "But I thought you might be at the picnic or something."

"Let's see." Anders put his chin on his hand and drummed his fingers against his cheek. "Go to the picnic, or bring you lunch. Meet new people who'll probably still be here after the summer, or . . ."

He still didn't want to say it.

". . . or satisfy my hunger?" Bel finished for him. Totally not saying it, either.

"Yeah," Anders agreed, a bit shakily, and relieved that Bel hadn't said the words. You know. Those Words. "It's no contest. Ever."

Bel patted the bench next to him. "So what did you sign up for for workshops?" he asked, trying to ease the mood.

"Firearms, Aly's spying workshop, and Phoebe's workshop." Anders sat down beside Bel -- scooting pretty close right off the bat -- and gave him a slight smile. "So no real surprise there."

"You gonna be a sports star or a soldier?" Bel teased, bumping his leg against Anders's.

Anders went pale for about half a second. "Long as I don't end up being the guy who executes people in secret, I'll take either," he replied. "Hell, the firearms course is almost necessary if I'm gonna survive my senior year. Not like I can throw fireballs or cast spells, so I gotta do something. And I like Aly's classes."

"Yeah, killing's messy business, you don't want any part of it," Bel said. "But maybe Phoebe can come up with a charm or something to give you a little protection from the usual aliens and trolls."

Anders took a more vicious bite of his sandwich than he meant to. "I never want to be that guy," he said again. "If someone was threatening you or Phoebe and I had to take 'em out, I would, but I don't . . . I can't do that in cold blood like that."

"Let me deal with the rough stuff," Bel said gruffly.

Anders reached over and took his hand. "You can't protect me forever, you know," he said quietly. It just kept coming back around to the fact that the summer was going to have to end sometime.

"I can try," Bel said, squeezing Anders's hand back.

Anders laughed softly. "How are you gonna manage that?"

And again, it went without saying, 'when you'll be gone.'

"Trust me," Bel said. "I'll find a way."

Anders blinked at him a few times, then grinned and kissed him. "I love you, you know that?"

"Really?" Bel said, batting his eyes. "I wasn't sure."

"Dork," Anders told him. "Do I have to say it more often? Is the sex that good that you forget?"

Bel leaned back against the table with his hands behind his neck. "Mindblowing does come to mind," he said lazily.

"More than just your mind," Anders muttered, deliberately clear enough for Bel to hear him.

"That an offer?" Bel purred.

Anders licked his ear and murmured, "Always, baby."

"One of these days," Bel said, "you're gonna distract me too much and I'm gonna end up knocking down a wall instead of putting one up."

Anders did his best to look perfectly innocent. "Long as you take your shirt off doing it . . ."

Bel wiped some sweat off his brow. "Hot enough for it," he mused.

"And don't bother putting it back on when you come home, either," Anders added with a pointed grin. "'sides, I could always help you put it back up."

So it was bad innuendo. He didn't care.

"Now I'm just thinking I should blow off working this afternoon," Bel smirked.

"Uh uh," Anders laughed. "~~You already tagged in~~ Stay the whole day, then blow off a whole day later in the week and I'll make it worth your while."

"You'll give me reason not to get out of bed?" Bel said, cursing the fact that he'd tagged into the afternoon shift already.

"More than one reason," Anders promised, trailing one fingertip down Bel's chest. "Not like I have any classes at all this week anyway."

"This is true," Bel said, licking his lips. "And Phoebe's not teaching. Should take advantage of it."

"Uh huh," agreed Anders, wriggling a little closer to him. "Take advantage of a few things."

"Tomorrow?" Bel murmured, leaning in closer.

Anders gave him a slow smile. "Hell yes."

Like Xander said, just a bit of cleanup left on this section of the school, before moving on to the next.

And now Bel pondered taking off his shirt. Which he then did.

Poor almost-emo Conner. He was working instead of going to the picnic, because he really didn't want to meet neat new people and then have to go away.

Awwww.

The workers might not be as ~~sweaty~~ shiny today, but that doesn't mean it's no fun watching them.

For he is around, at least until everybody packs up, at which point he might sneak off to the picnic too.

Oh LJ, thank you for not sucking today. Plz to continue?
