Flight and Flying [Friday, June 29, 2nd period]

When the flight workshop arrived at the shed, they found it locked up tight and Anakin leaning up against it.

"For our last class," he said, "we're going to fly helicopters. The pilot's waiting for us over at Selkie Cove. Come grab a hat--and no, they're not optional--and then we'll head over together."

No, he wasn't going anywhere until they were all wearing stupid hats. He had to find his fun somewhere.

"Well," he said thoughtfully, "I'm free this weekend. Or sometime early next week?"

"Maybe Sunday?"

"Sunday works," he answered. "I'll remember to shower this time."

Laughing, she said, "I'm sure Jaina will also appreciate it."

"I'll wash your sheets for you if I made them smell last time," he offered. "Since I probably stunk them up."

"That's very sweet of you, but I'd actually appreciate it more if you could show me how to work the machines?" She asked hopefully.

"I can do that," he said. Not that he knew how but he'd figure it out and ruin some clothes trying. And he'd watched Seely do it. "Sure, I can do that. I'm an expert."

He wasn't. He so wasn't.

"Really? That's wonderful. I need to clean my clothes anyway--they're more resistant to dirt, but still in need of..." Inara trailed off, eyes wide, as she realized that she was talking to Gavin about her dirty underwear. Had her training already deserted her?

"Washing," he said, understanding the hesitation and not pushing. "So are mine. I'm about down to my dress uniform and I am so not wearing that around when I don't have to."

"You have a dress uniform? What does it look like?"

"It's got a collar," he said with some disdain. "Mostly black with some red trim. My rank insignias. I only wear it for special occasions."

That actually sounded rather tasteful. "Why is that?"

"It's not really something I can wear most of the time," he explained. "If I'm not in my flight suit, I'm in some other type of uniform or in my...sleeping."

Inara blushed and let her hair fall forward over her face. "I'm not really used to the clothing here yet, either, I'm afraid."

"They're really cute sleeping clothes," he said, going for light and funny. "Have my name on them and everything."

"Is that in case you forget who you are? Or end up with someone else's?" She laughed.

"I think it's a military thing," he said. "Right on the waistband. And they spelled my name right. You have no idea how often I get people calling me Gavin Dorklighter."

Inara burst out laughing.

He laughed at her laughter, clearly pleased. "Almost fitting for me, isn't it?"

"Almost, but in a very suave and cool way," she assured him as her laughter tapered off a bit.

"And now that you've called me suave and cool, I'll trip over my own feet and split my pants," he joked. "Just watch."

"Okay," she smiled expectantly at him. "Any idea how long this is going to take? I'd hate to be up in the helicopter and miss it."

"There's no timetable on clumsiness," he said. "I don't split my pants for just anyone."

Oh, that sounded bad. "I mean. Um."
