Flight and Flying [Friday, June 29, 2nd period]

When the flight workshop arrived at the shed, they found it locked up tight and Anakin leaning up against it.

"For our last class," he said, "we're going to fly helicopters. The pilot's waiting for us over at Selkie Cove. Come grab a hat--and no, they're not optional--and then we'll head over together."

No, he wasn't going anywhere until they were all wearing stupid hats. He had to find his fun somewhere.

"Just thinking," she shrugged with one shoulder. "I have to track some people down and talk to them."

"Sounds serious," he said, but didn't press.

"It is kind of. There was a fire at the barbarque last night," Isabel explained. "An unintentional one. It had something to do with Charlie. I think she was able to start it herself and somehow Peter might have copied it. They were both to freaked out to talk last night."

"Charlie can start fires?" Anders asked. He'd only talked to her a handful of times, but while it didn't surprise him that she had some kind of powers, well . . . everyone else he knew who could start fires was sort of gruff and not that friendly. "I'd be freaked out too if I was them, 'cause fires . . . yeah."

"Exactly," she nodded. "And Peter didn't know and I guess unconsciously copied. I'm just glad not one got hurt."

"Yeah, me too. Especially with a bunch of people around." Anders scrunched up his nose in thought. "Think that might be as good an excuse as any for me to drop by and check up on her, huh?"

"I think so," Isabel nodded. "I think she needs know that people here aren't afraid. That they want to help."

"She's a nice girl. I think I'll do that," he decided. "Can never have too many friends around here. No offense to present company," he added, nudging her affectionately.

Isabel smiled and squeezed his arm. "None taken. Because you're absolutely right."

Anders gave her one of his almost-shy, crooked little grins. "You're a good influence on me, big sis."

"Love you to," she whispered, tipping her head up to kiss his cheek.

And really, at the moment Anders had no idea how to top that, so he opted to hug her again, and settle in for a little bit of that slightly-clichéd but still pleasant 'companionable silence.'
