Construction Site [Monday]

It's Monday and that means a new week of construction has begun. The school almost looks something like a school now and Fraser's very pleased to see that. Fraser's sporting a new hard hat because he liked that it matched his uniform.

"Good morning," he greeted as the students arrived. "Please equip yourselves with your hard hats, safety goggles and tool belts. Thank you for all your hard work thus far. The school almost looks like it was once a school now instead of a flaming pile of alien destruction."

Add that to the lists of things Fraser never thought he'd utter.

"Let's get to work and, should the need arise, come find me if you have a question."

"I'm very well, thank you," he said, taking off his hard hat and sticking it under his arm. "Are you a new worker for the construction project?"

"Not exactly," Jo said. "Well because of your date? With my mother?"

Way to be subtle, Jo.

Fraser raised an eyebrow. "Right. I remember her mentioning a daughter when we talked before. Yes, I'm hoping to take her to dinner."

"And after dinner?"

"After...dinner?" He frowned. "Dessert?"

Bad choice of words, Fraser.

"And by dessert you mean sex!"

"No!" Fraser shook his head quickly. "No, by dessert I meant like ice cream or pie! Dessert comes after dinner!"

"Well, I wouldn't want you sleeping with my mother before at least taking her to dinner."

"Why do you think I'm going to sleep with your mother?" Fraser asked, flailing. "We're just going to dinner! Just dinner! I have no interest in sleeping with your mother!"

"I'm well aware my mother is an attractive woman, Constable," Jo said, not flailing merely because she was going to wait until after she'd left the site to do so. She raised an eyebrow. "Are you saying you wouldn't sleep with her?"

Fraser had absolutely no idea how to answer that question in any type of good way. So, he avoided.

"I don't see what business that is of yours."

"I'm just looking our for my mother's best interests," Jo said. "For all I know you could be some Lord of the Underworld or something."

"I understand that," Fraser said, nodding. "And I'm sure your mother will appreciate you looking out for her best intentions."

And he'd know to fear both mother and daughter now.

"To put your mind at east, I am not the Lord of the Underworld. I am Benton Fraser and I grew up in Inuvik, Northwest Territories, Alert, Nunavut, and Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories. I think it's too cold for the Lord of the Underworld there."

"Unless hell really did freeze over, I guess not."

That was a little better. Fraser took a chance and breathed a sigh of relief.

"You're very protective of your mother," he said, smiling a little.

Jo grinned. "Oh, this is nothing," she said. "You should see what Mom does when I try to go on dates."

"I can only imagine," he said and grinned back. "I promise you, my intentions are honorable."

"Good," Jo said. "And if they're not, at least try to keep it from making the radio."

"You have my word," he said, nodding. "Did you have anything else you needed to ask?"

"No, that's about it," Jo said.

Fraser nodded and said, "Very well. Before you go, when you say Lord of the Underworld, you meant our esteemed Vice Principal, didn't you?"

"It's like you're psychic or something," Jo said. "Yeah, I meant him."

Fraser nodded. "You can rest assured I'm nowhere near similar to him. For one, I've never been shot in the backside."

Jo beamed innocently at him. "Let's keep it that way, shall we?"

Fraser raised an eyebrow again and said, "We shall."
