When the students showed up to the class, there was a table with drinks and snacks and Phoebe was looking more cheerful than she had last week. After everyone had signed in and gotten whatever refreshments they chose, she smiled at them.

"Okay, the last two classes have been pretty serious in subject matter. Unfortunately, the reality of history tends to be more with the ugly and the depressing than with the happy and the shiny. They say that history is written by the victors, but in the history of witchcraft, there have been losers on both sides. The problem is, it was sometimes hard to tell which were friends and which were enemies. A warlock could betray a witch just as easily as a parishioner could betray a priest. There were never any really clear lines between your friends and enemies... and the lines between good and evil are not always black and white. Sometimes, the lines are gray. Sometimes, the lines don't exist at all." Phoebe paused, taking a drink from her cup. "My point is, just because someone is supposedly on your side or just like you, it doesn't make them your friend. Likewise, if someone is on the opposite side of a conflict, it doesn't make them your enemy. Things change. People change."

She smiled. "Okay, for today, we're going to do something different. Throughout the ages, in stories, film and television, there have been several portrayals of witches. I want each of you to pick one that was called a hero, and one that was called a villain. I want you to tell us who they are, and then I want you to tell us why the hero wasn't neccesarily the good guy, and why the villain wasn't really the evil character."

Phoebe cleared her throat... loudly.

". . . means it's time for Anders to stop getting sidetracked," he concluded hastily.

But wow, were the tips of his ears ever red.

"Besides," Wyatt muttered to Anders. "Arthur and Lancelot totally weren't sleeping together anyway."

"Oh, come on," Anders muttered back. "What, you totally can't see either of them ever being with a guy? Ever? All the subtext is right there, dude."

Phoebe may have *headtreed* against a tree at this point

"You're totally imagining things, dude," Wyatt said. "I mean, there's nothing wrong with it, it just never happened."

"And you know this for sure because?" Anders demanded.

"I've read all the stories!" Wyatt insisted. "Okay, there was one book that had a threesome thing going on, but when they talk about Lancelot serving Arthur, it wasn't, you know, that way."

"It so could have been!" Anders countered stubbornly. "It so totally could've! How do you know it's really literal, and not barely-disguised code?"

"You're imagining things," Wyatt said, just as stubborn. "Fine, go read some Arthurian literature, and find me some sort of 'code.'"

"And you're totally just not willing to consider that idea at all," Anders retorted.

"Because it's not true!" Wyatt said.

"You don't know that!" Anders insisted, stubbornly. "It could've just not made it past whatever censorship filters they had around back then, or people stopped talking about it when censorship got to be the in thing!"

"Dude, just because you found a porno about it doesn't mean it really happened," Wyatt said.

"But it also obviously means I'm not the only one who thinks it could have." Anders crossed his arms over his chest and glared challengingly.

"Yeah, you and a porno director, there's some good source material right there," Wyatt said, rolling his eyes.

"Enough," Phoebe said, stepping in. "Wyatt, you gave me a villain that wasn't... how about a hero that wasn't really?"

Because if she didn't step in it would get a little too amusing for the radio squirrels tonight.

"It could totally have been canon," Anders grumbled behind his hand. "If the story hadn't ended so soon. Maybe now we'll never know for sure, but it could have been!"

"Dude, why don't you tell me about some of your world's heroes and see how you feel if I start randomly saying they slept together," Wyatt said. Then he sighed as Phoebe stepped in. "It depends on your point of view," he said. "One man's hero is another man's oppressor."

"Oppressor? Dirrrrrrrrrrty," Anders said before he could stop himself.

Wyatt stared at Anders.
