Ninja-ing - Wednesday 1st period - Week 5

“Good morning everyone,” Yondaime nodded his hair looking a bit on the... odd side. “There’s not a lot going on today. So we’re going to continue on working with the weaponry that I introduced you to last week. I want you to work in pairs and try out each kind of weapon and figure out which one you like the best. There are targets placed all around the area and some are hidden. These are real, weapons so again please be very careful. No poking people.”

Sokka grinned and took it. "These aren't shaped right at all; they won't really come back to you when you throw them. But you can hold it and feel the balance of it, like this." He held the thing out and let it bounce in his grip a bit. "Then, it's just a matter of aiming and matching up the direction you throw it with the angle you release it at and the spin you give it. It's all instinct, really."

Sokka aimed at a distant tree and let fly, and the shuriken arced across the distance and thunked into the tree's trunk.

Okay. That didn't look too hard.

Teddy picked up another shuriken, holding it like Sokka did. He aimed for the same tree as the other boy had and threw it in what he hoped was the same way.

...

Gosh that was a deep hole in the ground. "Oops?"

Sokka stared at the hole in the ground. This was SOME weapon!!!

"Nice try?" he ventured. "It's okay to suck at first. We can't all be me."

"You made it look easy," Teddy said, making his way over to the hole to look down. Yup. Pretty damn deep. "Maybe less force next time?"

Sokka shrugged and smiled. "Force is good. Force is always good. You could use a touch more control, though."

"Lemme guess," Teddy replied. "Lots of practice."

"Damn." Teddy sighed. "Think the other weapons might be better for a beginner?"

Sokka considered the other weapons. "I know I suck with a sword. Maybe ask Sifu Yondaime what he'd recommend?"

Teddy nodded. Then remembered the horror story from Kabuto the day they snuck in there.

And shuddered. "Maybe."
