Dealing With Stupid People [Monday, June 11, 2nd period]

Josh leaned up against a desk in the Danger Room, hands in his pocket and a grin on his face.

"President Andrew Jackson, in the main foyer of his White House, had a big block of cheese and I can't believe I'm giving this speech," he began. "He did not, sadly, have a cracker the size of Lake Tahoe. I checked. My old boss, the White House Chief of Staff, used this folksy excuse to make us all talk to total crackpots once a year and today that privilege falls to you."

He waved his hands. "Pick a desk, make yourself comfortable, the computer'll drop someone insane off to talk to you. Try not to laugh in their faces--they're all based on real people. Um, sadly."

"Mex.i.co," the man enunciated. "Country just brimmin' with illegals who are coming into our country and stealing jobs from honest, hardworking Americans?"

"Oh! Where is it? Is it near Kansas or California or Pittsburgh?"

The man stared. "How did someone this stupid end up working in the White House?"

Bad move, guy.

"I beg your pardon," Aravis said, her voice going steely.

"It's Mexico," the man said, rolling his eyes. "It's a different country? God."

"You will adjust your tone, sir," Aravis said, starting to get annoyed. She raised her chin, every inch her upbringing. "Simply because a person is foreign does not mean that she is ignorant or stupid, and I do not need to be treated like some fool. I should have you killed for your insolence."

"You can't do that!" the man insisted. "I'm an American! I have rights! I can say whatever I want--it's in the Constitution!"

Aravis raised her eyebrows. "Are you certain? Have you studied it yourself? I must admit I thought that would be beyond your capabilities. I'm certain there's a clause detailing the rights of visiting diplomats and your rudeness is inexcusable."

"I'm not rude," the man said rudely. "I'm plain-spoken."

"You're a moron," she said.

"You're the one that doesn't know where Mexico is," he said with a snort.

"And I might learn that eventually, but you'll still be rude and ugly."

"I've never been so insulted by someone I wasn't paying alimony to!" the man ranted.

"And I've never been so insulted by someone who wasn't immediatey disposed of."

That wasn't really true.

"You're not allowed to kill me," the man blustered. "There's still a trial by jury in this country!"

"Diplomatic immunity."

"Not on that!"

"Yes. I thought you said you understood the Constitution."

"I have a degree in law!" the man blustered.

No, he didn't.

"I'm calling my organization's attorney right now and getting your green card revoked," he threatened.

"Good luck doing so before my bodyguards catch you," she said easily.

The man stood up and scurried from the room. "You'll hear from our lawyers!" he howled over his shoulder.

"Not before you're beheaded!" she called cheerily.
