Dealing With Stupid People [Monday, June 11, 2nd period]

Josh leaned up against a desk in the Danger Room, hands in his pocket and a grin on his face.

"President Andrew Jackson, in the main foyer of his White House, had a big block of cheese and I can't believe I'm giving this speech," he began. "He did not, sadly, have a cracker the size of Lake Tahoe. I checked. My old boss, the White House Chief of Staff, used this folksy excuse to make us all talk to total crackpots once a year and today that privilege falls to you."

He waved his hands. "Pick a desk, make yourself comfortable, the computer'll drop someone insane off to talk to you. Try not to laugh in their faces--they're all based on real people. Um, sadly."

"Why do you want to create human-animal hybrid clones?" a woman demanded, stomping into the office.

Turtle blinked, straightening up, because she'd drifted off a little bit there and then tried to figure out if she'd heard the woman correctly. Yup. She sure did. Hmmm...Human-animal hybrid clones. If she wanted to create them, why would she?

After a moment, she answered simply, "The furry demographic population has a lot of pull these days, you know. The people get what the people want. That's democracy for you."

The woman's mouth dropped open. "I know what those are!" she finally stammered. "I watch meta-ed CSI crime dramas! That's disgusting. I'm voting Republican next election!"

She'd voted Republican in every election. Details.

Turtle bit her lip to try to keep from smirking at the reaction. "Yes, well," she said finally, with a nod. "Good luck with that, ma'am. It's not our job here to judge the way our citizens wish to spend their tax dollars and the demand for human-animal hybrid research has been rather staggering, really. I suggest that, if you are in a different opinion, you contact your congressman or lobbyist of your choice to help make your opinion heard as well."

"Ohhhhh, this has letter-writing campaign all over it!" the woman stormed. "I pay taxes and I don't want to pay for things I don't like. Just wait until my church group hears about this!"

Turtle's head bobbed a little. "We look forward to hearing from your group and considering your opinion on the matter, ma'am."
