Dealing With Stupid People [Monday, June 11, 2nd period]

Josh leaned up against a desk in the Danger Room, hands in his pocket and a grin on his face.

"President Andrew Jackson, in the main foyer of his White House, had a big block of cheese and I can't believe I'm giving this speech," he began. "He did not, sadly, have a cracker the size of Lake Tahoe. I checked. My old boss, the White House Chief of Staff, used this folksy excuse to make us all talk to total crackpots once a year and today that privilege falls to you."

He waved his hands. "Pick a desk, make yourself comfortable, the computer'll drop someone insane off to talk to you. Try not to laugh in their faces--they're all based on real people. Um, sadly."

A slightly disheveled British man staggered walked into Mac's office. "Have you seen Gerald?" he asked.

"Uh, he went that way," Mac replied, pointing back out the door of the office. Best way to deal with stupid, in her opinion, was to make it go as far away from her as possible.

He cocked up his eyebrow. "Someone else tried that earlier today. I'm not going to end up wandering around aimlessly and then end up in Josh Lyman's office, am I? Though his assistant certainly thinks I'm charming."

"I'm very sure that won't happen," Mac said. "Really, he was just here, and... he went to uh, get back to work."

The man didn't look convinced. "I am John, Lord Marbury," he said, holding out a hand. "I'm here to talk about why the White House is inviting a terrorist to its Saint Patrick's Day celebration."

Mac sighed and shook his hand. "Okay, that's fine, but I have nothing to do with that invite. You'll have to wait for Gerald."

"Very well," Lord Marbury said, "but I will wait here. Be a dear and fetch me a cup of tea."

"You're sure you wouldn't rather wait out there?" Mac tried. "It's far more comfortable, and I will bring you tea."

"And you won't shut the door on me and run away?" he inquired, raising an eyebrow. "I'm the Ambassador for Her Majesty the Queen of England."

"I will not run away," Mac promised, holding up both hands in a vague show of submission.

"Very well," he declared, standing up. "I'm off to see if there's a decent cup of tea to be found in this building--which I rather doubt--while you frantically try to find Gerald or learn about Irish terrorists. I don't particularly care which."

He ponced out the door.
