Construction Site: Friday 6/8, all day

Thanks to Xander having caught the radio Wednesday night, even if he didn't happen to be looking when it actually occurred, there's now a sign next to the bricklaying supplies:

Construction Site: Not For Mysterious Smacking. Or the other kind. This includes vistors not that we're looking at anybody in particular.

There's a yellow post-it note attached to the sign: P.S. Mgt. has no comment on recent reports re: "Big Equipment" except to say don't touch it unless you've been trained how to use it, dude(tte)s.

Bel showed up for the morning and read the sign. He chuckled to himself. Nobody saw him, can't prove anything.

Stark, who had decided it might be wise to show up and work more than once, gave the sign a strange look. Then he shrugged and turned his attention towards the bricks.

"I didn't do it," Conner grumbled, adjusting his mortar-adorned pink hard hat before he pulled his gloves on and got to work with the bricks.

For workers and guests. Not for smackings.

No coffee today. Instead, there's burgers, fries, and milkshakes from Luke's. What? A little variety is a good thing, okay?

"You bring man-food. Mmmm, grease. Cave-Xander approve."

Bridge eyes Xander suspiciously. "You didn't actually get cave-personed did you? Because if you did then I'd have to have Words with whoever did that."

"Me remember verbs for talkings. Cave-Xander just hungry." He grabs a burger, with a grin.

"You," Bridge rolls his eyes. "Are a dork. But you're *my* dork," he adds with a grin.

"Everybody shuh hah one," Xander mumbles with his mouth half-full. He swallows. "Luckily for me, that's not a problem."

"A dork or a Xander-shaped dork?" Bridge says. "Because if it's the second I'd like to file an objection."

"Well, there's a lot of Xander-shaped dorks to go arund if you start visiting other dimensions," Xander points out, though he'd meant the first.

"Yeah, think I'll pass on that," Bridge mutters under his breath. Which, okay, technically he'd already done that once, but *this* Xander had been with him at the time and besides, just because it had worked out once didn't mean he wanted to try his luck again, thanks.

"Well, you don't need another Xander," he answers, missing the point.

"Nor do I want one," Bridge says. "I like *this* one. But..." how to explain being afraid that if he goes home or somewhere home-like he won't come back?

"But?" There's some irony here, yeah, because Xander already knows his, or thinks he does. He just doesn't know what he knows. ...Or something.

"I'm afraid if you go home or somewhere home-like that you won't come back," Bridge says, deciding straightforwardness is the way to go.

"Ahhhh." Xander glances down at his burger, cave-man hunger apparently forgotten for the moment. "I kind of had a feeling you might be." Way to own your issues, dude. "Dawn asked if I wanted to go home with her, but...yeah."

"There's not any real reason, not like last time when I *knew*," Bridge continues. "It's just... so many people just *leave* and I couldn't stand it if that happened to you. Again."

Xander nods. "Cally, that was just bang, out of the blue. And Parker's off in Russia, Alanna's someplace where she has to send letters by spell..." He wants to promise that he won't just disappear someday like other people have, but he can't. He knows he can't, he knows Bridge knows that, they've talked about it, but... "You know if that ever happens to me again it won't be because I have any say in it, right?"

"I know that," Bridge says. "I do. Doesn't stop me from worrying, though," he admits.

"Well, it's not like --" Xander stops halfway through the sentence, realizing he doesn't even know how he was going to end it. He doesn't have something to say for this.

"We were gonna build a fort," he says finally, the closest he can come to admitting how much it worries him too. "To hide in, so I wouldn't have to leave." A thousand years ago, give or take six months.

"Sometimes building a fort and hiding in there with you seems like a really good idea," Bridge says with a little smile.

Xander laughs. "Well, I did tell Dawn I was going to hold it down while she's gone..."

Bridge looks contemplative. "And keeping one's promises is always a good idea. You busy tonight?"

Xander shakes his head. "Mel's going off with Dawn for the weekend. Might take a quick look around to make sure the island didn't decide to be ironic and get invaded by vamps the second she left, but after that I'm all yours."

Bridge grins at that. "I like the sound of that. Um, the 'all yours' part, not the vampire thing."

The work is pretty light in the afternoon, and will let up early so that workers can visit the RenFaire if they so desire.

Or snark, if that's your thing. Ogling is more fun, though.

He'll be happy to tell you all about the big equipment. You still can't touch it.
