Maddie clapped her hands to get everyone's attention at the start of class. "Hello! Everybody! Students, students, your attention, students!"

It was entirely possible the students were paying attention already, in fact. But Maddie liked clapping and calling for attention.

"Okay then, is everybody here? Did Holly and Molly scare everyone off last week?" She burst into giggles. "Oh, darlings, I know they're weird, but you've got to love their enthusiasm. And we've seen weirder, trust me,"

"We have," agreed Syvvie.

"But that's neither there nor over further over there. I hope you all had a great week and moved safely back into your dorms. . . . Today, we're going to do a little bit of imaginationing. Get yourselves loosened up for some role-play we might do later. That's right."

"That's right. What we want you to do today is to imagine what your life might've been like if you'd been born of a different gender."

"If you're a boy if you'd've been a girl, if you're a girl if you'd've been a boy--don't tell me men or women, Syvvie, I don't have time, today."

"I wasn't going to say anything."

"Sure you were. Anyway. Pair up, you know, like you usually do, or you can work in bigger groups if you'd like, but I want you all to draw a picture of what you might've looked like as the opposite gender, and tell a little story of what your life might have been like. Get creative! Would you have been a sports star? A cheerleader? A band geek? What? Go ahead now, get talking!"

[ooc: Yeah, I know, kind of lame, but I didn't get a chance to post it last night so I'm typing off the top of my head from work, today. OCD is on its way]

With a boy name if you're a girl and a girl name if you're a boy. And some other name if you happen to be some other thing.

Just like the text says. Imagine what your life would've been like if you'd been born of the opposite sex.

Syvvie swears her life wouldn't have been any different. Maddie knows she's full of crap.

Hey, you can do anything you want to do, as long as you're willing to get up and do it.

Yeah, I am teh lame today. Ugh. I should have called out.

... she was pretty sure it was more a boy name than a girl name anyway.

Mac isn't really up for anything like class right now. The fact she's even here is enough as far as she's concerned.

So she's not even really looking for a partner. She's deep in emo thoughts instead, and looking like she could probably do with a hug right about now.

Syvvie noticed. "Darling, are you alright?"

Mac, dragged out of her thoughts nodded slowly. "I-- yeah, I am," she said. "Just... bad day. Really bad day."

Syvvie grabbed a chair and eased herself into it. "You want to talk about it? Or should I distract you with boring tales of 'the good old days'?"

"My girlfriend left this morning," she said simply, deciding she should at least give an explanation. "I think distraction from that would be really good right about now."

"Oh, honey, I'm sorry, that's terrible. But be glad I'm the one talkin' to you and not Mad. She'd try to get you to talk about her feelings. Now, let's see. . . . Have you ever been to Long Island, sweetie?"

Samantha. That was easy enough.

Mac shook her head. "No, I haven't," she said.

Uh... Ant

Hey, some guy out there was probably named Ant. Somewhere.

"Well, living here, I can't imagine that you'd find it all that exciting, but that's where I grew up, and let me tell you, I thought it was a weeeeeird place. . . ."

Syvvie proceeded into a long story about being a teenager in Long Island and being courted by a local boy who was planning to join the army and how he went off to war and they wrote each other letters, but his brother, who was a conscientious objector, won her heart instead, and then both boys moved to Rochester, so it didn't end up mattering in the end.

Never mind that it was impossible to tell what war she might be talking about, or that the historical details she peppered the story with didn't make any sense whatsoever with each other, or that the soldier boy's name changed three times throughout. She was distracting the poor girl and giving her catharsis of an absurd tale of an ending love affair. She was helping!

She was helping. If nothing else, Mac was distracted enough trying to figure out which boy was which that she was less singlemindedly thinking about Cally. Which was something.

"... it sounds plenty interesting there," she said when she finally decided to give up on figuring out the finer details.

ANNIE-MAL! ANNIE-MAL!

"Darling, you don't know the half of it. There are those that say the city is the place to be? They're full of it. It's all about Long Island."

Animal scratches his head for a moment or two.

"KISS BOY! KISS BOY!"

"Nellie Perriwinkle"

"Cities are overrated," Mac agreed, with a slight nod. "I'd rather be here..." She trailed off a little at that point, she's probably gone back to thinking about Cally.

Annette thought. She had no idea what she would be like if she had been born a boy. She'd probably still like to play dress up.

"Hmm."

"I've been enjoying here so far," Syvvie remarked. "You've got walking turtles and a radio station that tells you everything that's happening."
