How to Blow Things Up: Period 2 Week 4

Aly had oh so handwavily asked her students to meet her at the main campfire.  When then students arrived, they'd see an assortment of devices that looked a lot like bombs running the gamut from the type of bomb you'd see in the movies to less sophisticated devices

She waited for everyone to arrive then started speaking.  "The last few classes, we've talked about how to blow things up.  Which is, admittedly, a lot of fun and also what the class is about.  Today, however, we're going to talk about what happens when you don't want the bomb to go off.  Disabling explosives is a hugely dangerous task, and in general, it's something you want to call in an expert to deal with."  She grinned.  "But I think we all know that when you need an expert, he or she is usually not around.  So today we - and by we, I mean you - are going to work on disarming explosive devices with not quite so many consequences if it's not done correctly."

Gesturing to the assortment of bombs,  she started discussing bomb disposal techniques including the use of a pigstick because that term is awesome and the ever-popular cutting of the correctly coloured wires.

"Now the trick here is that these devices aren't bombs.  But if they are disengaged incorrectly, they will explode."  She grinned.  "I hope you wore clothes that can get paint on them.  If not -" she pointed to a box "-there are some lovely and very fashionable smocks to put on."

"If you have any questions, feel free to ask.  Otherwise, pair up and have fun."

[OOC:  [personal profile] mouthy_mercwins for suggesting paint bombs.  More information on how this works in the OCD notes which are coming up]

Gavin took a seat and scratched his head. He could set off bombs but this required concentration and a knowledge he didn't have. Stupid being from another planet.

Zuko didn't wait to pair up, he just picked out a bomb and studied the wires for a moment. No, the whole explanation hadn't made much sense to him. He picked up the wire cutter and just cut the blue one.

"It's the red wire," Seely said. "Always the red wire."

"Because red means stop?" Gavin asked. Wires. Why did there have to be wires?

Cally was pulling on a smock and looking carefully at the bomb.

This wasn't going to be as easy as the mole men's one, she thought.

Charlie had a smock on, and a pigsticker in hand. "Want any help?" she offered diffidently. "Although you look like you've already got it."

Seely shrugged. "I'm not sure why," he said. "It's just always the red wire."

"Do you want to cut it then?" Gavin asked, holding out the wire cutters to Seely.

Seely took the cutters. "Okay," he said. "Here goes nothing."

He cut the red wire.

Dib didn't put on a smock. He was used to having to wash odd stuff out of his clothing. not dirty! Well, I suppose dirty, but not like that...
He found a bomb, and started looking over it. It seemed simple enough, but there might be a trap...
