How to Annoy Your Teachers (And Not Get Turned Into Animals) [Week 3, Period 2]

It's another day at the main campfire for John's class. He's got a doughnut in one hand and...a doughnut in the other. What? Growing boy and all. After everyone made their way over and found a seat, John put his snacks down and rubbed his hands together.

"First of all, let's see your homework if you did it," he said. "Show me your amazing skills at annoying all the teachers you can. And I hope," he said and eyed Sokka, "no one threw bombs this time. Some teachers might be women but they could still snap my neck."

He waited until homework turned in before going into today's lesson.

"Today, we're going to learn about one of the first things that I ever used to try to annoy a teacher here with. Making up a different persona is fun. You can let your imagination run wild, pardon the cliché, and be just about anyone or anything. In fact, the more outlandish, the better. When you use this technique, props are optional but encouraged. For instance, if you're going to be a pirate? Bring a stuffed parrot or a hook for a hand. Seeing your commitment to Sparkle Motion the character's only going to make the teacher more eyerolly than he or she already is. And keep in character. Throughout the entire class, don't let the character drop. Sign in with your made up name, talk in an accent, answer questions according to the character you have chosen. The key to this method is endurance. Don't let the teacher's glares make you drop character."

He paused for a moment. "You're still not allowed to throw bombs for this one. Don't be a mad bomber what bombs at midnight, please. If the teacher starts to question you, just stay in character, pretend they are the delusional one and perhaps offer them the use of some psychiatric services. That's always fun."

John looked around the room, trying to picture what each student might make up. "So, for today's assignment, I want you to make up a quick character. One the spot, make it up and talk to me with that persona. I'll ask you some basic questions, try to get you to drop character and see how you do. And no throwing bombs at me either."

"For your homework, I want you to make up a character for one of your classes and stick with it the entire time. See how long it takes the teacher to notice, how long it takes them to get annoyed and how they might try to force you to drop your character. Stay strong though!"

[OOC: Homework can be handwavy, just don't use specific teacher names if you handwave so as not to mod something that shouldn't be modded. Again, you don't get in trouble if you tell the teacher John sent you. Also, fellow teachers who have been annoyed? Feel free to confront John in the appropriate thread! Have fun!]

Annette kept her head lowered, and she nodded.

Could you be annoying and not talk? Annette considered that a great possibility.

"Boo. Boooooo."

She looked up and dang if her eyeholes weren't crooked. Well, she could see John with half an eye which was better than fidgeting and trying to shift her sheet around.

He was frowning at her so maybe she was annoying after all. Or...was he seriously asking her if she was all right?

"I...don't think so."

Annette had to be careful here. With the way her emotions were she could start crying just like that. Especially if someone was going to be nice to her.

"I got kicked hard, but that wasn't mentioned on the radio. I'm...not a...pervert." Her bottom lip wibbled slightly.

She shook her head and bent over, pulling up the sheet to her knee to show him her shin. The bruise was huge, ugly and purple and blue, and Annette had a big knot right in the center of it.

"I don't need the clinic. This is the third time now I've been kicked. It will get better. With time." Sniffle. "Thank you for believing that I'm not a pervert."

She nodded, "Okay." Cause evidently she wasn't very good at taking care of herself. If she had a choice, she'd still be in bed, under her covers.

"Thank you, John," she said softly, moving to sit and prop her leg up on an opposite chair. Pulling up the sheet, she set the ice there and inhaled sharply, sniffing again and again. It hurt...so bad.

"I don't know why I'm a pervert. I can't figure it out. A pervert's got to be bad, right? I'm not bad in a perverted way. I don't even think like that I don't think." Sniffle. "Did you, uh, listen...to the radio last night?"

"Oh," she murmured, wondering what he thought of her but won't say out loud. Turtle said so many things about her.

Annette gave him a slow nod of her head, hanging it lower as her shoulders slumped. "I did. I...don't know why. I wasn't myself at all."

"A gay cowboy?" Yeah, she wasn't sure she heard him right. "Wow. I wasn't a cowboy, or even gay. I wouldn't mind trying on some spurs sometime though. Did you think you were someone else, John?"

"Oh. Dear." Annette hadn't exactly hit on anyone. Not really. Okay maybe kind of. But there was no kissing or hugging or anything like that. "Oh my. Pay someone to spend the night with you?" Wow.

His last story nearly floored her and she had to reach out quickly to grab the ice before it fell. "...girls? You beat up girls?"

She could well understand the not being you thing. She's been here long enough to see things, talk to people who weren't themselves. It was different when it happened to you though. Especially when it was aired with hate over the radio.

"You're right. I needed that, John. Thanks." She looked back down at her leg, as best she could see it through the stupid cut holes. "She just told everyone. Things that didn't even reflect yesterday. I don't like her. I think I need to get ev-" No, it wouldn't do to say anything about her plan this evening. Not good.

"Thanks, John. For the ice too."

She beamed at him, not thinking that he couldn't see it, "Thank you! That makes me very happy to know. I'll do better next week, promise."
