Today the class wasn't meeting in the Danger Shop. Following the directions in the note ~~handwavily~~ delivered, the students would find themselves in a clearing with sandbag 'bunkers' at one end facing a large pile of stones and twisted metal that had landed after the school exploded. On the other end, several rows of different types of grenades were laid out carefully. Aly stood in the middle, trying not to be nervous over her students' first experience in class with live explosives.

Once everyone was assembled, she spoke up. "Morning, everybody. As I hope you've noticed by now, we're not in the Danger Shop. Which means that the grenades over there are live. Today's not the day to fool around, and if I see anyone doing so, they'll be lucky if they just get detention."

Confident she had everyone's attention, she nodded. "This is going to be fun. Those of you who haven't handled live rounds before, don't be nervous, you'll do fine." She spent a bit of time going through the development and uses of different types of grenades before going on to the proper procedures for arming and throwing the weapons.

"Grenades aren't always the best choice of explosive," she said, wrapping up. "The delay between pulling the pin and the explosion means you can throw it, but the enemy could throw it back at you or it could bounce off a wall and roll back towards one of your allies. So what I want you to do today before trying them for yourself is discuss with a partner or two the tactical advantages of grenades. Why use them and not a Molotov cocktail that can't come back at you? Or a gun which has a longer range?"

"After that, come over and try them out for yourself."

Well, Rikku certainly was!

"You wanna pair up? Are these real grenades? Mine are back in the weapons locker. I love grenades. Uh, and they're way easier to transport around than Molotov cocktails, and they don't require prep time, just pull and throw, so that's an advantage. Hi! I'm Rikku! Have we met?"

"Sure! I hope so. You have grenades? I've only used them once or twice, and yeah, tell me about it. Plus, it's hard to get bottle for Molotov cocktails. Hi I'm Marco and I don't think so did I get everything?"

Rikku laughed. "I think so! I have lots of grenades, yeah. I was kinda the explosives person in our party. What did you use them for?"

She considered. "Yeah, I hadn't thought about the bottle-thing. And with guns, you have to reload and you might run out of ammo and grenades are handy for when you just need to toss-and-go-boom. Plus they've got a nice effect radius, whereas guns can miss. I mean, we usually had swords anyway and not guns, I'm just saying. And it's nice to meet you, Marco."

"Eh, it's kinda complicated, but let's just say it involved a house that's no longer around much. I'm not a big fan of guns, too much ammo to carry. Plus, I don't always have apposable thumbs. It's nice to meet you too, Rikku."

"My Home's gone, too," she said a touch softly. "And I like my claw best, although it's not any good for range. You don't need ammo, and besides, you can't steal things from a distance anyways."

"... No opposable thumbs? Really? That sounds kinda weird."

"...It wasn't my house. Well, my house isn't standing any more either, but hey, at least, actually, never mind, can we change the subject? And yeah, I can turn into animals, it's a thing that involves aliens."

"Yeah, totally, uh, not a fun topic for me, either." Rikku shrugged. "But the animal thing is cool."
