Good morning. I'm pleased to see that you've survived the zombie infestation. Coffee and energy bars are at the back and if you need any first aid treatment, please speak up. Otherwise, don't forget to sign the roll sheet before you leave. There will be a lab on Wednesday.

Today, we will be discussing the processes of weathering.

Simply put, weathering is the breakdown and alteration of rocks and minerals at or near the Earth's surface into products that are more in equilibrium with the conditions found in this environment. Most rocks and minerals are formed deep within the Earth's crust where temperatures and pressures differ greatly from the surface. Because the physical and chemical nature of materials formed in the Earth's interior are characteristically in disequilibrium with conditions occurring on the surface. Because of this disequilbrium, these materials are easily attacked, decomposed, and eroded by various chemical and physical surface processes.

Rose wanders into class, helping herself to coffee and an energy bar. She then begins to take notes.

Angela waves at Rose, who she hasn't seen since the end of the zombie battle. "How are you doing?," she whispers.

Rose turns toward Angela, waving back. "I'm doing alright. And you?"

Angela smiles a little. "I guess I'm better, now that I'm not covered with zombie goo."

Rose laughs. "Life is always better without zombie goo."

"I think that has to be my new motto," Angela laughs, turning back to Ms. Sidle's lecture.

Draco walks into class and signs the roll sheet. He helps himself to coffee and an energy bar. He sits down slowly into a chair in the back, trying to cause the least amount of pain possible to his back.

Rory stumbles in, holding her own coffee, and looking only marginally better than yesterday. She smiles at Draco as she slumps into her chair.

Having returned just in time for class, Lee immediately leaves all his stuff in his car and races to Geology, reaching his seat just as the bell rings.

He realizes that he forgot to bring his book bag and now feels extremely stupid.

*Without a word, she drops a notebook and pen on his desk. On the first page is a scribbled note:

Don't worry. Happens to all of us.

*Coffee and an energy bar follow with a brief smile before she continues lecturing*

Lee smiles widely and takes extra detailed notes, paying extra special attention to the lecture.

Edward shuffles in the door, looking very well like he could be doing a zombie impersonation. He smells the coffee and wakes up enough to attach to the canister like it was a lifeline. Anyone trying to get coffee after him will likely be hissed at, but they can either physically move him aside or simply smack him in the head and he'll shut up.

River listens attentively to the lecture, taking occasional notes and nodding to herself intermittently in understanding. So far it seems to conform to my conclusions about the nature of reality here...

Willow walks in late, looking confused. She's still not sure what day it is or if she's missing any homework assignments in this class. Takes a seat and wonders who her lab partner is too. Breathes a sigh of relief that she's got her Geology textbook and notebook with her.
