Sabriel looked at her plate of mecurunee und cheese-a and poked it with a fork. "What is this?"

"Mac 'n Cheese," Cally said, sitting next to Sabriel. "Which is what the Dean has a tendency to call me and my girlfriend, but they are very different things."

Sabriel looked up. "Oh. Oh! Are you Cindy--I mean, Mac's girlfriend?" This sounded odd to her, but by now she had decided to just go with it. Unless it involved public nudity.

"Yeah," Cally said. "My name's Cally. Not Cheese."

"Hi Cally," Sabriel said, smiling. "I'm Sabriel. Mac is my Big Sister here."

"Oh, awesome," Cally said. "She's the best, really. You couldn't have lucked out more. Though obviously she didn't warn you enough about the food here. Which, I guess by me being here too, isn't much of a good example, either."

Sabriel gave her a wry look. "Eleven years of boarding school. I'm used to slightly suspicious food." She poked at her cheesey thing again. "Only not this kind of suspicious food."

"You've never had mac 'n cheese?" Cally said. "It's a staple. And animal free."

"Is it edible?" Sabriel was still suspicious.

"Very," Cally said. "It's pasta and cheese. Two of the best things ever."

Sabriel gingerly tasted some. Her eyes widened. "Hey, this is much better than it looks!"
