New Kid Registration and Check-In - Open Tent Outside the Dorms - All Day Friday

Well, the office was gone, but apparently that didn't mean that the office drones had time off. They were in an open tent outside the dorms processing new students bright and early on Friday morning.

It was a veritable paperwork conga line as the human-looking members of the staff did their thing, along with Fred Trooper, Bucky T. Squirrel, Venus, Bob Gremlin and Roz. You might even see the tech support kitten out and about, trying to keep the computers running. Robert Goulet had a family reunion to go to and couldn't make it.

"Indeed," he said with a nod. "All weapons are stored in the weapons locker."

She could hand over the blaster easily. The lightsaber, however. "Technically I'm never supposed to be without this," she said. "I don't use it unless I have to, but if something happens like I've heard about and I don't have it, there's not much I can do."

Technically, that wasn't the truth, but she figured that was all right.

"What sort of weapon is it?"

"It's a lightsaber," she said. "Like a sword, but with an energy blade. I can even install a safety on it. Easily."

"A sword is a weapon," he said.

"If it's switched off, it's nothing more than a cultural symbol," she tried. Not that she'd spent any time at all around politicians.

"It sounds like a dangerous cultural symbol." Fraser wasn't quite convinced.

"It can be, in the wrong hands. Those wrong hands aren't mine, and in fact I'd be more comfortable personally knowing it's in my hands and not in a locker that others might have access to."

"Do you carry it with you at all times?"

"Yes, though I'd be willing to work out a compromise."

She felt almost wrong saying this.

"Compromise?"

"If there are times or places you think I shouldn't carry it," she said. Damn. Maybe she should have skipped this part.

"If I have to make specifications, then it really should be stored," he told her.

And this was why she left the delegations up to everyone else. "I'm just trying to be accommodating," she said. "That's all."

"I think you should store it," Fraser suggested. "It will be safe there."

"When am I allowed to use it?" she asked, still not giving it over yet. "Does it stay in there forever, do I get it back if I leave town...?"

"You can use it whenever you'd like in the designated areas," Fraser told her. "It doesn't stay in there forever and you can retrieve should you leave. It's easily accessible."

Sighing and looking really unhappy about this, Jaina handed it over.

If it was that easily accessible, maybe she could steal it back later.

Fraser smiled and took the lightsaber. "Thank you. Enjoy your time here."
