fandomhigh | Fandom High Graduation Ceremony Class of 2007 Part I

The sun was shining high in the sky above the front lawn (not that this would matter to certain members of the audience since there was a nice awning and shaded pathways). A stage was set up with a podium and several seats for the administration and guests. Off to the side of the stage, a guitar for musical performances.

In front of the stage, blue and gold chairs were set for the largest graduating class in Fandom High history (not that it was a tough record to achieve), and to either side of those chairs were bleachers for students, family, friends, alumni, and residents of the town of Fandom who wanted to wtiness this event.

It was a beautiful day for a graduation.

Marie nodded. "It's just weird. We, um... broke up last week."

"Yeah, I heard about that when I had a drunken Jamie moping under my bed. He said you thought he was cheating on you?"

And that would be Marie looking embarrassed. "I don't know. You know Miley? She told me that she heard stuff. And pointed out that Jamie could have dupes dating other girls and I would never know. And then he got all weird about me and Bridge which was dumb because Bridge is with Xander."

Nadia frowned. "Well, all I know is Jamie was pretty wrecked by it all. Though apparently the fact that I'd spent the week stuck at the bottom of a hole cheered him up?"

"Well, the stuff he said to me wasn't very nice either," Marie pointed out. Then the rest of Nadia's words caught up with her. "What?"

"Did you know that kid who looked like Walter? The one who got half his face burned off? Turned out he was evil, or something. And he pushed me into a hole and tried to take over Fandom."

"I don't think I ever met him," Marie said. "You're okay now, though, right?"

Nadia nodded. "I'm okay. I dug myself out, and he didn't make me miss saying goodbye to Walter."

Marie was just a little clueless. "Walter is gone?"

"He left at the start of last week. He had to go home and help protect his time from vampires and Nazis." There was the slightest tinge of bitter to Nadia's tone.

"I'm sorry," Marie said. "Is it just for the summer?"

Nadia shook her head. "No." Then she shrugged. "But, well, I mean, somewhere, some time, we have a kid. So I'll see him again, right?"

"You must," Marie said. "Unless..." she glanced at Nadia's stomach. She also figured it wasn't worth mentioning the fact that she would never bear the child who had shown up calling her Mommy.

"I'm not pregnant!" Nadia said, a little bit indignantly. "Besides, Bailey knew both of us."

"Well, then, you can hold on to that," Marie said. "You and Walter were good together."

Nadia's expression went a bit distant at that. "Yeah. Yeah, we were."

"So were me and Jamie," Marie said quietly. "Life sucks."

"Yeah," Nadia said again. "And now all these people are graduating, and they're going to leave, too."

Marie nodded. "I'm actually going away for part of the summer, too," she admitted.

"Where are you going?"

"A school in upstate New York," Marie said. "It's a school for mutants. I'm hoping to learn more about using and controlling my powers."

"That . . . that's great, Marie. That's a really good idea. I hope it works."

"Thanks, so do I. What are your plans?"

"The Doctor offered to take me on a trip in the TARDIS."

"That sounds interesting."
