Novice's Guide to Villains and Villainy - Friday, Period 3, Danger Shop

Thursday greeted the students inside the Danger Shop. Her arm was still in a sling.

"Good work last week. While Lord Vizzle lives on, you all performed admirably. This is our final class, and I would imagine the last class of the academic year for all of you. Thank you all for a memorable semester. I'm not teaching over Summer and I'm not certain at this stage if I'll be back in the Fall, so in case this is the last time I see any of you, best wishes for the future. I hope this class has been of some use to you. Let's get on to the final.

Your task is simple: walk through the door and you'll be faced with a villain from literary fiction or popular culture. Defeat them using whatever means necessary. You'll be graded on ingenuity and the effectiveness of your plan, so if you don't succeed in defeating them, it's still possible to obtain a good grade provided your approach is sound. Once you step through the door, there are no rules.

Shawn took a slight step back, because wow this thing had no concept of personal space. "What did I do?" he asked automatically.

"To me or to the rest of town? To me, you existed, silly. To the rest of the town, you said the sky was falling and it wasn't and now no one's going to believe you. So there. You have to do what I say now or the town church is going to get a fireworks show."

Shawn folded his arms. "I don't take well to bribery," he said. "You might want to try a different tactic if you want me to do things."

"It's not bribery, silly billy. It's blackmail. The teacher confiscated my slinky. It's in his desk drawer. Go and get it."

Bossy little fox wasn't she?

"Then it's your own fault for getting it confiscated," Shawn replied stubbornly. "Go get it yourself."

The bossy little fox didn't like that answer. She ran out of the room screeching for the teacher. "Mr Biggs! Mr Biggs! He stole my moose pencil!"

Shawn's jaw dropped in indignation as he watched her run away. The little--

As far as he was concerned, she was gone, right? That was something positive right there.

You'd think so, but she came back with the teacher. "It was him! It was him!"

"Detention," the teacher said.

This fox girl, was really starting to irritate Shawn, and he's not easily annoyed.

He was about to object, to try to argue his way out of it, but really, wasn't that just what she wanted? To get a reaction? It took a bit of restraint, but he said nothing for a long moment, then just shrugged, "Okay then, I have detention."

"And he hit me!" the fox said.

The teacher frowned in a way that Ben Stein would frown if he had facial expressions. "Principal's office. She can decide what to do with you."

Shawn actaully had to bite his lip to stop her accusation becoming reality. Hitting her, would probably be counter-productive to this plan.

He just nodded solemnly, hoping this would actually work.

"I'll take him to the Principal's office, Mr Biggs," the fox girl insisted. "I'll make sure he doesn't run away."

Shawn pressed his lips together resolutely. After a moment, when he was sure he wasn't going to sound growly he said. "Show me the way."

The little fox girl led the way to the Principal's office. Before Shawn even had a chance to talk once they got there, she started babbling to the Principal about all of the bad things he'd supposedly done.
