DAMM - Period 1 Monday - The Final Countdown

Byron appeared before the class in the usual way and bowed to them.

"Greetings students! Today is the day of your Final exam! Follow me! To the DANGER SHOP!"

As the class moved to the danger shop, Byron explained the they would be presented with a situation that they will have to resolve. Each student had to pick at least one door, but could do as many as they like after that. Arcane, alchemical, and mundane items would be available for them to assemble whatever sort of solution might come into their heads.

"Seriously?" For some reason, she had a hard time picturing that.

"We practiced our song for music class the next morning!" Door grins. "Seely might've been a little less pleased about it than we were."

Dawn was giggling at that image now, "Thanks, Door. I needed that."

"Of course since we stayed up all night, the final performance was... interesting."

"Yeah? What happened?" Not like she was happy for a distraction, or anything.

"Professor Lorne hauled us off the stage before we'd quite finished the verse about licking her and keeping her knickers."

Dawn stared at Door.

"Those might not have been the original words."

"I'm not sure whether to be disappointed or not," she said.

"In conclusion, sleep deprivation can be fun, but might damage your grades."

"Oh good," Dawn rolled her eyes, "because that's exactly what I needed. Hey, can I talk to you about something completely unrelated?"

"Sure?" Door replies.

"Um, so, there's this thing," Dawn told her sheepishly, "That I said maybe I could help with, but I think I need you to help for it, too, so the world doesn't go blooey. Or something."

"...Blooey?"

"Conjugation of the verb? To bloo?" Dawn looked at her hopefully, "So, Rikku has a friend who's pining away for the love of her life because he may be in another dimension. And I kinda maybe told Rikku that I might have a way to get him back."

Sometimes ~~deliberately~~ unfamiliar with colloquialisms, yes. Actually slow on the uptake, no. "You want to open a door there."

Dawn nodded. "And I don't want to die or tear the universe apart doing it, so...yeah."

"Is that what that huge apology in the newspaper was about?" Door managed to miss both the bendy space-time and the cookies, only one of which she's disappointed about, really.

"I guess? I didn't read the paper, but Rikku's apology cookies were tasty."

"I missed the cookies."

"I may have a couple left over, if you want."

"Oh, well in that case, I'll definitely help." Door grins, then turns serious. "Except for really, what are we talking about? The furthest place I've ever opened a door to before this was, well, here. And before that, it was just around London."

"It'd be to another dimension, which Rikku's going to give us information on," Dawn lowered her voice, "but I told her it might not work and I didn't tell her your name. I was thinking maybe you could use...me...for the extra boost."

Door frowns. "I can try. It's harder to open a door to someplace I've never been, but not impossible. Are there pictures of it? Or of this person we're trying to rescue?"

"Rikku's hopefully getting them, and anything she remembers about him," Dawn hoped that would be enough.
