Ares addressed the class as they came in. "Now, I'm sure you're all still missing your brats, so today we're going to take things easy, and have a bit of a review session in anticipation of our upcoming final. Which will be hard and arduous, and you will fail if you don't adequately prepare."

She smiled warmly, "I did have a little one and he was so cute. Unfortunately he answered the phone when my mom called and well, the whole grandmother thing didn't go over so well." An understatement if there ever was one.

"Did you have a little one, Walter?"

Walter laughed quietly at the image of her parents getting a long-distance taste of Fandom.

"Yes, I did. Bailey. She looks so much like her mum."

"Bailey. I've always liked that name. Was she sweet?" Annette couldn't quit grinning; Sebastian had been so much fun, much more than she had ever imagined having a child would be.

"Do you mind me asking who the mom is?"

Walter pulled out a photograph (http://userpic.livejournal.com/60688681/12636646) of a muddy little girl and passed it to Annette.

"She was..." He smiled fondly and shrugged. He'd never thought a seven year old (pardon, seven and a half) could get him wrapped around her finger so easily. "Doesn't she look like Nadia?"

Which she smiled and went awww over. "Really cute, Walter." She glanced over at him then back at the picture. "She does. Definitely. How did Nadia do with her?" Annette handed the picture back.

"They were almost inseparable," Walter said, taking the picture back and smiling down at his muddy little girl. "Except for bathtime. She'd be as fast as me if her legs were longer."

Kids seemed to have changed them all. Some in a good way, some in a not so good way. But Annette was pretty sure that they all were dealing with the loss in pretty much the same way.

"Bathtime was a little trying for me too. How are you coping?"

"I miss her," Walter admitted, putting the photo away again. "But I'm trying to see it as a good thing. It means that somewhere, Nadia and I see each other again and we're with her now."

"It's good, that way to think and see things." For her it was different. She didn't get to enjoy Sebastian for very long before he died tragically, and then here was her son who was living with him and a another her in another universe somewhere. It was really hard to imagine. So Annette just didn't.

"You'll be careful when you go home, right Walter?"

"I'll be doing my best to stay alive," Walter assured her. "And I'm very good at what I do."

Annette nodded and pocketed that chocolate bar for later. Doing my best to stay alive... didn't sound too good to her.

"I hope I see you to say good-bye, at least, when it's time."

Vampire hunters don't have retirement plans. "I'm leaving next Thursday after my last final, which is for this class, so we'll have a chance to say goodbye."
