Spy Tech, Class Fourteen (04/18)

Wednesday, April 18, Period One

As had been announced the previous week, the class met in the Danger Shop. Today it was programmed to look like an open field, the perimeter cordoned off with yellow tape. A number of men and women in white lab coats and safety glasses milled around, and a firetruck was parked off to the side.

"No lecture today," M announced, approaching the assembled students. "Today, you'll have the opportunity to test out one of our agents' favorite inventions -- the Jetpack."

She gestured toward a small knot of technicians, who were making final checks on what appeared to be a number of bulky-looking parachute packs.

"Each Jetpack is fitted with a sensor which will not allow it to leave the marked boundaries, as well as a medical monitor which will switch the equipment to autopilot and return it safely to us should any of you become ill. Or if you begin using the Jetpacks in a manner which is hazardous to yourself or others."

M looked each student sternly in the eyes. "I expect you all to exercise caution and common sense when utilising this equipment. Now..." She pursed her lips. "Go and have fun."

As she stepped aside, the technicians approached, gave a quick demonstration on how the Jetpacks operated, and then assisted the students in fitting the equipment on.


[OOC: Playtime for today's class! Fly around in the Jetpacks, play chicken with the other students, have races, do whatever you like. Just remember that the Danger Shop safety protocols will not allow you to be injured, and the equipment is programmed to return you to M if things get too out of hand. So please, as M says, use common sense. Otherwise -- have fun! But not until the OCD is up, so fun-having may now commence!

"Hey, D'Anna." Parker could barely keep her eyes open. "You're not trying the jetpacks either?"

"Morning, Parker." D said before taking a sip of her coffee. "No. Not really in the mood today. You?"

"I'd probably crash it, I'm nowhere near awake enough." She gave the jetpacks a wistful look, then took another sip of her mocha. "Up too late thinking last night. Oh. I ran into some of your kids. They tell you?"

"What I'd really like right now? A cigarette and something much stronger than what I'm drinking at the moment." D frowned at the jet pack crew and tried to keep her voice steady. "Yeah, found them going through some of my camera equipment. They mentioned stories and guns can't say anymore than that because theoretically, there was an interruption at that point, but waiting for their Papa to drop into the post, should I be frightened?"

"All G-rated, I promise." Parker grinned. "Very cute kids. I think they liked me because I spoke Russian to them." She rubbed the bridge of her nose. "Can't do anything about the cigarette, but maybe you want to hit Caritas tonight?"

D closed her eyes and bit her lips together for a moment. "I can see where that would be the case with them." She swallowed and opened her eyes, "Yes, a million times yes. Caritas is a brilliant idea!"

"Cool. I'll meet you there an hour or so after classes let out, I think." Parker yawned again. "And we can compare child-induced headaches and heartaches over booze."
