Tremble Foolish Mortals: The Gods and You, Class Thirteen [Period 5, Thursday]

When it became apparent that Ares had once again chosen not to grace them with his presence, Sam rolled her eyes at Krycek and went to pull up some information on the internet. Stupid unreliable fake gods.

"So. Since our fearless leader is missing, I thought it would be good to learn what there is to know about Ares, vital statistic-wise. First, a clarification--according to sources, Ares is actually the god of bloodlust, not war, and gloried in bloodshed for its own sake, which, just...yeah, moving on. Second, the words fidelity and birth control don't seem to be in Ares's vocabulary. He had three or four children, depending on who you talked to, with Aphrodite, who was, as you may remember, married to Hephaesteus. And hey, wait, didn't she say she was his sister when she was...nevermind, moving on," she said quickly, "Now, funny story about that. Seems that at least once, he was with Aphrodite in her husband's hall--always a sign of class, in case you're wondering--when he fashioned a net to catch them, then called all the other gods and goddesses on Olympus in to point and laugh at them. Ares, being the manly god of bloodlust he is, ran back to his homeland of Thrace after the incident with his, er, tail between his legs. There are also many, many women, both divine and otherwise, in the myths. Most of them bore him children."

Sam was smirking pretty significantly now. "Then there was the time he got chained and locked inside of a bronze urn for thirteen years, which makes me wonder if he's got claustrophobia issues. In any event, there are few details about that, so you might want to ask him about it the next time you run into him."

She wrote a long list of names please see the family values section or the Wiki article on the board. "Okay, your assignment for next week is to pick one of Ares's kids, name the mother, list what he or she was familiar for, and how they died. Also, if you can figure out whether or not Ares ever even acknowledged the kid, good for you and there will be cookies--which I promise not to bake! Also, for fun, if you would like to bring a dog, a picture of a dog, a stuffed dog, or do a dog impression for next class, that would be a great way to pay tribute to Ares, I think."

[ooc: Sorry about the lameness and the lateness of the post, but I was doing my taxes and forgot. OCD up! in a minute.]

"Oh, right then." Evie heaved a sigh of relief, then inquisitively asked, "Can it really be incest if they're multi-dimensional beings of intense power even if they're not actually really gods the way we'd define them in the Judeo-Christian tradition?"

"There is that. Their genetic stuff *should* work the same way, shouldn't it? And of course, the Ancient Egyptian Gods did the same thing, and the Pharoahs imitated them, and wasn't that a terrible idea."

"Well, yes. And they did have a very long reign. One can't help but think how things might have gone if they hadn't developed so many inherited diseases near the end of it." She sucked on her pencil, and then added, "Of course, there could have been more wars earlier, but one can't have everything. Interesting that the Greeks took the opposite view of incest, and Romans even more so. And that Ares and Aphrodite share a daughter named Harmonia. I can't quite grasp it." She stared at her research, plumb flummoxed.

"Well, I suppose, yes, that more people would make it more difficult--" Evie suddenly realized she was talking to one of Jack's Thingies, and meeped. "Maybe? Ahem. But. Yes. Good for them! Or.... something."

"Yes!" Evie chirped. "Fine! Just found the article about Hephaestus giving Harmonia a possibly cursed necklace! I love research!"

She so wouldn't be the first.

"Yes! Anyway." Evie settled down a little, muttering, "Researching researching oh my goodness researching," under her breath.
