"Oh, no! Please, sit down and join me." She could not be rude, it just wasn't in her. At this particular moment anyway.

Henry sat down across from her, looking a little concerned. "Do you have a headache?" He kept his voice at a reasonable level, just in case. It did look to him like she was keeping her head down to avoid light.

"Um, no. Not really." Annette couldn't lie to him either. He was just too nice. She leaned her elbow on the table an sort of rested her hand against her neck, covering that spot. She smiled at him, "How are you today, Henry?"

"Fine," Henry replied. "I stayed up a little late last night working, but other than that, fine. Yourself?"

"A little tired today, are you?" she asked with a grin. "And I am doing pretty good. Had a late night myself actually."

Ohhhhh. Henry got it now; she'd been drinking.
(He wasn't very good at figuring out these kinds of things.)
But far be it for him to bring it up. Discretion, and all that.
"How are your classes? Suitable?"

"My classes are going very well, thank you. I have been studying a good deal lately. What about yours?"

If Annette knew that Henry thought she had been drinking? She would have let him keep that thought instead of admit to the truth.
